All MPH are per GPS and are the average of the with v. against the tide. One person on board, 120 gal. fule and minimal equipment.
I loved the Honda as far as smoothness and quietness. But the HPDI feels more like an extra 50 hp instead of the 25 hp difference in the rating. The boat plans considerably faster and punching it once on plane will sent your occupants flying.
I ment to put that above. I did not have a Fule management guage on the Honda, so all I can do is give you my best guess, based upon filling the boat up after a trip and the Honda performance sheets.
The Honda is better from idle to 2000 RPM, the same from 2000 until about 4250, and better from 4250 to WOT. Over all based upon RPM the Honda is about 10% more fuel efficent. Based upon MPG i think they are very close, with the edge going to the Honda in the 2000 RPM and under range.
Don't get me wrong i love the Honda. But for a 22' and up boat with a single engine i think the 2 stroke is still the way to go. Once the bigger 4's and the supercharged versions come out the decision would be much harder.
In my oppinion if I were rigging a single engin on a boat over 2600 lbs it would be a 2-stroke. If I were rigging on a lighter boat it would be a 4 stroke unless performance is critical (i.e flats boat, bass boat etc). For twin application where perfromance is not critical it is 4 stroke all the way.
The DFI 2-strokes definately have a lot more power than the 4-strokes. I would try a 17p prop on that because 5100 is definately a little low, 5600 is optimum so a 17 should get you pretty close. Anyway, good luck with the new motor and enjoy!
