Default Start motor out of water???

I'm ready to take the boat out, the battery's were charger a little while ago, the electronics finally installed. Now, can I start my Scout with the Honda 150 at home, to make sure it starts. I was told by the dealer that I could run the motor with the garden hose hooked up to the rinse plug/outlet. I just want to make sure it starts. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Mike

The owner's manual for your motor says not to run the motor out of the water with only a hose attached to the flushing port. You have to use the earmuffs over the water intakes, with the water running, in order to run the motor out of the water.

I would recommend using "muffs" on the lower unit,, If you have to run the engine out of water. Check your owners manual and see if they recommend using the flush port ONLY. Most will show the use of "muffs" while the engine is running, and the use of the flush port with the engine OFF. Some say the Lower unit , and water pump assembly does not get the correct flow of water if you solely use the engine flush port, why chance it..Invest in a good set of Dual muffs and READ THE OWNERS MANUAL...

picked up some earmuffs today for the motor. Bought the ones with the garden hose connection. Attached a garden hose to the earmuffs and also the motor wash out port. Once both hoses were charged, started the motor for a moment. Everything worked well, thanks for all your help. Maybe after a while and some eperience I will be able to give out advice.

Thanks again, Mike
