Default GPS reccomendation?

Hi Guys;

Little time to research so I wondered which GPS by Garmin I should install. I dont want a handheld and will go with either monocrome or color but i want EASE OF USE w/o lots of bells and whistles. Just need it for safety/toy to learn more. Hoping to spend about $500? Any thoughts which model?

Look at the 276C. Portable with rechargeable battery. Comes with mounting kit for boat with power hookup. Can buy the automotive kit and use it in the car. Just bought one and love it. The base unit is a little over $500. Just my .02.

You can get an Eagle 480DF combo FF/GPS for ~$350. It's pretty much, if not exactly the same as the Lowrance LMS-480DF (~$450) which is pretty much the black and white version of their LMS-337c (~$600) color GPS. All of these units offer very high resolution screens which will let you see all of the intricate details on your charts without having to really zoom in.

There are also GPS only versions of these units for $50-$100 less than the price of the combo units.

Check out Boaters World - they were liquidating some Garmins - I got a 188C color about a month ago with external antenna and 50/200 transducer all in one package for 599 - no tax- no shipping.
