Default Hour Meter: After Market OR Yamaha

I'm having a hour meter installed on my boat in a few weeks while I have it in for it's yamaha 10-hour serice. The Yamaha hour meter costs about $160.00 plus install and the after market costs $70.00 plus install. That's a hundred bucks I could spend elsewhere. Is there any reason to pay for the yamaha meter? If so, please tell me here so I can make a more imformed decision before my service date? Also, maybe you can offer me another option, maybe some digital meter that gives a few things and not just hours so I can get more out of one thing.

The only reason to get the Yamaha HM is if you want it to match the other gauges.

Might have a look at this:

I remember seeing this when I was looking for an hour meter for my Honda 40. Never did buy one, though.

Matching is not an issue.........Hedoes not have Yamaha digital gauges otherwise he would have the hour meter on his MFtachometer. The Yamaha hour meter is a LCD type display.

Go with the cheaper one....all they do is register time when the key is on or engine is running depending on the type. If you do not like how it looks have the dealer install it in another location.

Cool. Yeah it sounds like I'll go with the cheaper one. The boat has Faria guages on the dash. So yeah, matching yamaha is not an issue though a good point still if I had yamaha guages.

I disconnected my yamaha hour meter because it drove me nuts. It clicks loudly. I got a cheapo and installed it inside the console.

I paid about $30 for mine (Aftermarket by Fania, but it does look as if it is the same as the Yamaha...)...

Just another POV...
