Congrats!! How'd you get it set up? Loaded, genny and all? I've got an 03 with the 225's, love it. Great boat. I pretty much spend most of the summer weekends on it either at the doc or on the hook. I wish I had the 250's. I get about 1.4 MPG at 4200 29mph. Nothing serious to report regarding problems/issues.
My friend had the same boat an, '01 but he got rid of it due to the rudes on the transom.
He loved the boat and with Yammies you should be happy!
Good luck with it!
I got the Raymarine package thrown in by Wellcraft including two C80's, radar, sounder and I bought a VHF--Uniden 526C and will give away the raymarine vhf to my brother in law. The boat is loaded with gen set, t.v. dvd and blue hull. Thanks for the response. I am getting excited.
I owned one of the very first made,1999. Excellent boat, mine had the fiberglass hard top with the enclosure curtains. The only negative was the fuel consumption mine had twin Mercs 250 EFI's the Opti 's were not reliable then and the 4 cylces were not available. In tough seas it kept up with a Grady White Marlin of a friend of mine and the interior layout of the Wellcraft was a lot more confortable. I sincerely hope that you get as much enjoyment out of yours as I did out of mine.
I have had alot of good times on our 290 coastal.....good luck and ask any questions if you have any....I have been through it all (At least I think I have). Welcome to the family.
I got the 2004 290 with yammies, great all around boat, family enjoy over nighters on the weekends and i enjoy the fishing side of boat. my only gripes would be the tight bilge access and the fish boxes do not drain completely the discharge hole in the box is not even with bottom of box. hey what kind of tv and where did they locate it in the cabin
I will post pics of 290..going to the Marina this weekend and will take some but here is pics of the 275 I traded with the rudes..so aptly named. the TV I am given is an Aquos.
Recently purchased the same 290 with 250 verados and have the Ray package also. Incredibly comfortable boat. Just spent 4 days in the Keys with the wife and was very happy with the layout. Curious where your TV is installed also. Getting ready to install one in mine.
Couple things to be aware of, the fishboxes aren't really insulated so you'll go through the ice quickly and like the guy above mentioned they don't completely pump out.I believe the pump out can be fixed with a little work to the plumbing. I'll let you know what I figure out...
Dont know if this will help ya or give ya an idea... but same thing use to happen with my fish boxes on my 250 Wellcraft. Water would collect by the pump out drain, not much, but enough to want to drain it.
I ended up installing 1 inch perko type plastic drains at the deepest part of the box right before the macerator drains (both sides). When I have fish/ice in the boxes, I plug the macerator drains with them rubber plugs and close them 1 inch perko's. At the end of the trip/day, I'll macerate whatever's in the box if needed (pull the rubber plug)... then with the box drained out of fish guts and all, I'll then open that one inch drain and wash out the box.
Water from the box emptys to the bilge from the perko drains.
Macerator drains do there job, Perko drains the box completely and doesnt let rain water collect in the box while the boats not bein used. Was easy enough to install,, Here's a pic:
By boxes are the same. Not a bad idea. I'm hoping to somehow insulate the boxes also. I packed both solid for the 4 day trip and it was completely gone within 24 to 36 hours. Fine for a day trip of fishing but not for extended trips. The Igloo had plenty of ice at the end of the trip with many, many openings. My thoughts were to lower the macerator and provide a better gravity feed to the pump from the box. Seems the standing water just doesn't flow out after a certain point.
Jim, the thing I didnt like is when it rained water would collect in the boxes, only way to get the water out was pump it out via the macerator (1 macerator for two fish boxes i.e. port/starboard)... when full of water,, took forever it seem'd to pump them out.
With them little perko drains in the bottom of the lowest part of the boxes, I can just leave them unscrewed and captive and any residual water simply runs into the bilge and pumped out if in the water at the dock, or simply runs out the rear drain plug when on the trailer here at the house. But that's my boat, yours I'm guessin stays in or at the water probably with the drain plug in most of the time.
As you can see in the pic, box stays dry and doesnt get all funked up and green with water trap'd in the box waiting for me to discover it and pump it out. $6 drain plugs did the trick for me. Just an idea for you guys...
You might be able to shoot some closed cell foaming in and around the boxes, my access is pretty decent, but my boxes are fine for me as I'm a day tripper for fishin. Only thing I would suggest is if the box in outboard of the stringer and you decide to shoot expanding closed cell foam around the bottom of the box, you might want to lay a PVC tube at the base of the stringer under the floor boxes to allow for drainage (like a big long limber hole....).
