Default F115 Impeller change cost?

Thanks for the link for doing a water impeller change on the F115. Before I go that route, does anyone know how much this would cost for a dealer to perform this? I'd rather leave this one to the pro's.

One more question: If the impeller fails, Yamaha would have to cover it since the motor is under warranty- no? If so, why don't they cover the cost to simply replace it before it breaks???

In most warranties, the impeller is considered a wear item and specifically not covered by the warranty. Check your warranty and the fine print and I'm pretty sure you will find that to be the case. With that being said, if there is a defect in the impeller, that should be covered. The only way to find out for sure is to take your boat to the dealer and ask that they evaluate the water pump impeller to help determine if the impeller is defective or worn. Then your dealer can contact Yamaha and a decision will be made at that point.

Good Luck!

Here is the catch. Your warranty is void if you do not follow proper maintenance. They can say you abused the engine and therefore your fault. I do all my own maintenance and save the receipts for the oil filters and oil I buy. I also make sure to "Scratch" the paint off the nuts when I check the torque, so they know I actually did it.

William- have you done the impeller change yet? If so, did you do it or have yammy do it?
I also do all my maintenance but this one I think I may let Yammy handle, depending on cost.
There is nothing wrong with the impeller but this is my 2nd season so I want to get it done before it goes.

Have you noticed any nuts needing to be re-torqued? I have not.

Technically, they can't void your warranty b/c you didn't follow proper maintenance procedures. They have to prove that whatever you did or didn't do was responsible for whatever problem you have.

While this is nice in theory, you can save yourself a hassle by following Somethin-Fishey's idea of saving receipts and stuff like that.

What I'm saying was in reference ti his first post..You are correct in that if the lower unit fails and you didn't change the crankcase oil, they do not have a leg to stand on. If you blow a power head due to impeller failure and overheat, then cannot produce some evidence of replacement you are SOL.

As far as the actual impeller, it isn't on the service list, at least for my engine. At this point, if the alarm goes off while running, you would have to turn it off and get a tow. I would do it myself, but I have worked on outboards since I was a kid. (My parents sold Chrysler outboards) They haven't changed much in 30 years (except ignitions) My boat is also in much more temperate weather and is used year round and stored in a garage when not in use, so I'm not going to bother. I'm trying to sell it anyway. No nuts have budged yet.

impeller change for my F100 was $90.00 at the dealer- should be similar for the F115

no loose nuts yet for me either- 3 years and running

Your charges should be one hour labor per engine plus parts. You can get either just the impeller or a water pump rebuild kit. The kit included several more parts and costs more. I believe the rebuild labor costs are the same, ask your dealer. Since you are going to the expense and time, go for the water pump kit.
