Random Quote: Patty Hearst heard the burst from Roland's Thompson gun, and bought it.
I finally got my 1999 Albemarle 265 home! Friday June 7 I tried to drive her to Connecticut from
Brick NJ. I got out of the Manisqaun Inlet to be recieved by 8-10 ft seas and 25 knot winds (Noaa radio). Holy $%@#, we better turn around and surf in a big wave back into the inlet. So we stayed in the inlet overnight. The next morning we went out again not much wind and the seas diminished to 4-6 ft. What a nice ride!!! Got back to the slip without a problem. This boat slices through everything, the only pounding (once) was on Friday attempting to come out of the inlet. Now I am setting the boat up and will be doing some fishing.
Gottaway--Please stop posting regarding your new Alby, I turn a horrible shade of green with envy everytime I read these posts or see your pictures.
Seriously though, congratulations on your good taste, that boat will serve you very well. Can't wait to hear about your fishing exploits this Summer.
Congratulations! I bought a 2002 this year and it's been great. I'll swear we catch more fish on it that my Parker. And it sure is a lot more comfortable when the weather turns nasty.
Also, the folks at Albemarle really stand behind their product. We had some shakedow problems and they took care of everything, no questions asked! It wasn't convenient to take the boat back to the dealer I bought it from, so they told me to take it to may mechanic and send them the bill. That kind of service is rare these days.
What do you Albe owners think about stability when drifting? I have often fished an older 28 (twin gas inboards) that ran super, but rocked on the drift like it was possessed. Owner tried sea anchor(s)to no avail - 3-4' would get it rolling from gunwale to gunwale. I have never been on a better boat for running through a nasty inlet, but the drift issue has kept this off my wish list.
I don't think my 265CE rolls any worse than my 23' Parker Sport Cabin. It's a single engine though. Maybe that helps having all of the weight down low in the center of the boat instead of twins.
I fish in the Cheasapeake which is different than the ocean, short steep chop. It hasn't bothered me though.
When it kicks up and you have to run home into 2-3' seas that little extra rolling doesn't bother you a bit!
Thanks for all the good wishes.JE, I will get some more pic's when I have some fish to show off like Glenns picture.Jeff, it's got a 454 with jackshaft and duo-prop.Pdrr, the boat does roll (24 degree deadrise) but mostly when the crew is bouncing around the cockpit, but I haven't enough experience to get a good feel yet.
