There is a good deal near me on a 1998 1850 Pro Sports. The boat has a 115 Yamaha "c' trailer, electronincs, good shape. Motor has around 100 hours.

I can get the rig for $10000. I know this boat is not a Grady, but 10k.

Can anybody say good or bad about these boats, are they as bad as a Sea Fox, with no resale?

WELL I JUST ORDERED ONE.I TOOK A TEST RIDE ON THE
2002 22 W/A W 150 YAMAHA .IT WAS AN EXTREMELY GOOD RIDING BOAT ,VERY FAST.A REAL PRETTY SET UP THATS WHY I WENT AHEAD WITH THE PURCHASE OF MY 25 W/A.THE ONLY THING MY SON DIDN'T CARE FOR WAS THE HEIGHT OF THE GUNNELS ON THE 22.IT WAS DIFFERENT ON THE 25.NATURALLY I CAN'T TELL ANYTHING ABOUT LONG TERM USAGE YET BUT MAYBE YOU CAN TELL ME HOW THE 1998 BOAT LOOKS AFTER 4 YRS. DGH,
I'm not sure if you are the same guy who e-mailed me a few days ago about the Pro-Sports but if so sorry for the repeat info.

I had a 2001 Pro Sports 1850CC, the boat was relatively inexpensive at $18,000 for boat motor and trailer. The boat had a nice layout, and a nice hull design.

The problems were many! The fit and finish was terrible, cheap doors, hinges, hardware. The center console seemed to be mounted to the frame very poorly, I want to say 4-bolts only. The wiring was very poor, twice I lost all power to my center console radio, gauges, gps. Dealer said first time was faulty fuse, 2nd was the main ground strap that fell off.

When the boat would pound on rough seas, I would worry about the hull integrity, just had that hollow sound to it.

The boat developed two small chips along the bottom edge of the hull, the dealer told me it was air bubbles in the gelcoat?????

My opinion is I will never buy another......

New Moon, yes I am Big Foot/David. You just said the pounding on the hull in rough seas worried you, THAT got my attention.

Are there any other hulls you would compare this boat to?

DGH,
What I mean about the pounding was that the hull just had a very hollow sound to it when in chop. It just worried me as to whether or not it would have a structural failure.

I have never been on another boat that had that sound. The best way I can describe it is a cheap sound and feel to it. You really should try and test drive the boat your looking at in some choppy water, you will know what I mean then...

I think I know what you mean. My research tells me this is a "price point" boat. You get what you pay for.

Its just that CC are scarce here in Georgia. I will be patient. I have two offshore trips coming up, so that should hold me for awhile.

Thanks, DGH

i felt a little queasy until i took that test drive.the 22' felt solid and i'm coming out of a tank a chris craft 1974 vintage.now i do not know about the wiring that the other member was talking about but the boat has circuit breakers and it seems to be well made, boy i could be wrong but i know i can't afford a grady the class of the field
and all the others don't seem all that different so i did like any other good wall st trader i went for price.the people i'm buying the boat from Seaview boat sales in new york seem like very nice people.i am usually a pretty good judge and i think for my purposes it will be ok.i operate in the long island sound and will only be out in rough water if i get caught in it.i usually fish no more than 3-5 miles offshore and even if i stray i can usually locate a harbor for getting out of a storm and wait it ou

i have no complaints on the older prosport boats. however, the new ones definately need some quality control. the deal for $10,000 is ok. new - it probably went for about $15k w/ trailer. keep in mind that although yamaha is a great engine- it is a c series engine. this is the least expensive model yamaha made. it does not have oil injection. the problem is that if the prior owner added to much oil to the gas mixture, you may have a carbon problem. also, keep in mind the engine is 4 years old. if you decide to buy, have dealer/owner have a compression test done and the heads removed to inspect pistons. good forbid you detionate a piston- a rebuild job is an easy $1800. if i was looking to buy a prosport i'd definately take the 1998 over the 2002. as for resale, depends if there is a steady dealer in your area. also check nada.com for book value. it is free.

DGH always remember"The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten" This holds true in almost everything !!!!

Vinny F-

I would check that boat. There used to be 2 dealers in the NY area. Dealer where I bought my C-Hawk, was dropped by them.

The dealer had serious issues with a number of the 2002 v-hull models (from the flats boats up to the 25' Walkaround). The business relationship was severed.

Manufacturer took back most of the boats that the dealer had in stock. The same boats that the dealer had issues with. Be surprising if they paid for freight all the way down south.

BTW, this all occurred in the last 3 weeks.

I'm curious. When do you take delivery on your new boat? My dealer had to wait for lengthy times when he ordered new. Or, was this boat already in stock?

BTW good luck with the new boat!

The hull was in stock we are looking to launch
6/27 or so probably 6/29.i'm having a couple of goodies added like a free fall windlass, electronics, nothing exotic, and i start a 2 week vacation than so it seems to me like a good time to break it in nice and slow.,and follow the book.i hope i can get buy with this ,who the hell wants to hear from my financial adviser, the wife.
truthfully the boat comes with all the optional goodies except the hard top.i know it's not the best but then again i couldn't afford the best.it was this or nothing that was my choice.i went with what i considered to be the best motor the yamaha 250,the boat should be adequate.it's a self bailing hull with a salt water wash down also a fresh water shower, sink,v bunks lots of storage,
the wire harness is a heavy gague with no breaks between connections color coded to circuit breakers, the hull has a 29 degree deadrise so its a deep vee should make for a good ride in choppy
water although a bit tender at rest,i can live with that.when i come back from vacation i will come forth with the HULL TRUTH and nothing but the truth
please keep your fingers crossed for me
