Default saltwater products license

Does anyone know what exactly is required in order to obtain a saltwater products license? Also what are the restrictions in regards to un-restricted species? One more thing do I also need a vessel saltwater products license or just an individual license, I often fish with others on my boat. I've read the info on the FWC web page but it's a little confusing.

Thanks Rob

Where are you located? Are you talking about recreational saltwater fishing? If so, it depends on where you live, as local waters are state waters. In mass, unless you plan on selling it, no license at all is required, but you have to follow state rules for sizes and limits. the annual abstracts list everything out. The only thing that requires any kind of permit are things like tuna, shellfish, and lobster.

Other states will vary.

Rob;

Commercial collection of most stuff in the ocean is usually the jurisdiction of that states Fish and Game (or equivalent) department. There are exceptions: minerals, oil, etc.

So, to answer your questions: a) Depends on what state you're in; b) depends on what you're collecting; c) depends on what you're going to do with it.

Rob, I work commercial. Getting an SPL is easy, for individauls, and the boat doesn't need one, unless you have others on board, that do not have SPL license. Also, about restricted species or RS, you need to earn that by selling fish to a wholesale dealer and earning a minimum of $5000, in a 3 year period. But, once you earn your RS, you then need to buy a federal permit from a fisherman, because the Fed's don't offer any new licenses on RS, any more unless you buy some elses, and now you have to buy 2 to get 1.
