Random Quote: GET THE TREBLE OUT LATE.......R, (Mates first green wahoo)
I am very interested in your opinions on this boat. I am a troller in the Great Lakes and run allot of 2-4 foot short chop. The wide open design is awesome 66 Sq. ft. for a 20.6' centerline.
That should be a good choice for your use. Edgewaters are built very well with excellent fit and finish and top flight hardware. They also ride very dry. The 205 is really an express with awkward forward access but you gain the storage of the mini "cabin". I like that boat for you. Quite expensive for a 20-footer.
I like that boat, but wish somewhere in ''specs'' it would tell you what deadrise...if you're gonna spenda lotta time in 2-4' chop, this will be an important issue...
The deadrise is 20 degrees on the boat. It will take a 200 HP. I plan on putting an 8 HP kicker and auto pilot on as well. I don't know if the 200 would be a weight concern in that instance. I also will have the tim tabs installed as well for control concerns. I'm not a spped freak. More concerned about not ending up with a sore back from getting pounded as much as possible.
Some photos to help 3 people in the transom & the top drains are not even close to being under water most boats would have filled the splash pan. The top has well over 6'4ft clearance my dad is 6'4 sitting & the gunnels range from about 22-25" high you can see his knee is under the gunnel while seated. Checked the side view the boat test was done with real size people not 150 pounders that boats get rated for. The water line from boat was about 2ft or a little more just right it seamed. How about this for storage pretty neat although the potty would have to go I don't want one.
The draft seemed much less than the specs showed more like 16-17 inches & that was when all went in the transom area with the livewell full ( they could have pulled a pathfinder trick & said 10" draft they rate draft without a motor or load) . I would guess the only way the boat would draft 20" it would have to have max load with F225 full fuel, full water tank & so on.

Nice DC. Nothing wrong with Edgewater. Might be worth taking a look at the Hydrasports Lightning 202DC too. Very spacious and it's built on what was at one time a Vector hull with a 22 degree deadrise. It's the only Lightning that uses that hull. Great ride for a twenty footer.
Anyone ever buy one of these boats? Looks like a very nice harbor cruiser with room for deck chairs. Is any kind of v berth possible in the little cabin with a filler cushion?
I think a 150 is not enough power loaded but not sure. A 200 4 stroke seems to be available, 200 hpdi would make it move nicely. About $40K for a 20 footer?
I'm thinking about a boat I can leave in the water and my wife can operate. The 205 EX seems like a candidate, and I like the design better than a whaler or a dual console.
Roger on the aft bench, but I'd want a couple of the nice heavy padded deck chairs in addition. I don't really like the port lounge seat, although it adds much needed storage area.
Plenty of storage in the cabin also. The cabin appears too small for adults to lay down in there but it should be fine for children to nap. The small cabin area also contributes to the huge open cockpit area as does the toe kick space the entire length of the gunwales. Neat boat, especially for northern areas with shorter boating seasons where the protection of the tall full windshield will be especially nice.
The dual console market is loaded with great boats. Scout, Mako, Hyra-Sport, Grady White, Triton, and Whaler give you many choices. Now I'm partial to Whaler because I own a Ventura 210. I fish this boat offshore and inshore and it's been solid as a rock. You can get the cockpit set up in different ways. The bottom line to these boats is that thet give you many options (i.e. fishing, cruising, family outings). They do all of these with ease. Here a couple of pics of mine.
I don't think many of these boats have sold to have much of an owner base. I've talked very briefly to a couple of dealers and get the feeling they are not big sellers. Have not seen any used ones listed.
An internet search came up with a couple of non-current models that have either recently sold or 2005s that are still for sale.
One dealer has a demo with an F150 and a few options for $39,900. Originally I think the base price without power was 29,995, so the demo price is higher than I expected.
For a high end small boat I'm surprised so many are rigged with F150s. Seems like with a load of passengers the F150 would be overtaxed. An HPDI/F200 or F225 would be the only way I would be interested.
I haven't determined if any lower bunk cushions are available. I know the cabin is too small for adults, but a 4' bunk for kids would be ok with me.
I guess for the $$ this boat has a limited market, but I like them better than comparable offerings from Boston Whaler, although there really is not a similar design from them.
I like this style boat too Ian. It takes me back to the V20 Wellcraft Steplift my dad had when I was groing up. I think a fold out on the left side would be nice for an adult nap after a hard day on the beach (or in the cooler). I am looking hard at the dual console boats also, not sure if I would rather have the upfront seating or the dry storage space.
I bought a 2004 edgewater 205c in Nov of 2005. It has a 4 stroke yam 150. I was skeptical about the power, but it is plenty of power for that boat. Full fuel (90 gal) and 2 adults, I can cruice at 30 mph and be burning about 6.4 gph. This is around 4400 rpms. pictures and specs on my boat is at
I was thinking the same thing about a V-20 or the old Baby Bertrams. I really like an open cockpit that I've had on the 2 Gradys and would miss that more than I'd miss a larger cabin if I got a CC.
I picture this boat with a big cooler and a couple of fold up deck chairs.
There is a lounge seat option that replaces the chair on the 205 EX that will seat 3, but you can't sit facing forward. Gives a lot of storage underneath it though.
....
Thanks for the report on the 205 CC/F150. I've heard that the F150 is strong for a 150, and you donfirm that. The efficiency sounds worth the lower top end a 200 would give.
Capt Rick: Nice web site you have! Good to see one set up right and updated.
