Default Judge Yachts

I remembered someone on this site mentioning to me about these boats. They look nice on the website. I'm thinking about the Chesapeake 26 with inboard crusader 285. It has a 8ft 6in. beam and a transom deadrise of 7 degrees. It is a semi-displacement hull with a full length keel. How do you think this boat would ride fully loaded with 5 people in 2-4 ft. chop. Do you think that I would have to move up to the 28 to take 6 people fishing? Anybody have any first hand info about quality fit and finish of these boats? Thanks Paul

I'd also post your questions on another fishing/boating site....www.tidalfish.com. tidalfish.com is a chesapeake area site and i believe a few people over there have these boats, or if not at least know alot about them.

Paul,
Judge boats are well respected by the local waterman. I was at the factory last summer while looking for a boat and seriously considered the very boat you're talking about. Bill Judge does a nice job with his boats. He will work with you to see you get what you want. His operation is a small personalized one. The Chesapeake can be alot worse than the ocean because of the shallows and currents. I've come to find that out first hand after moving here from New York. As far as performance, you should have no problem. I think you should direct that question to Bill Judge himself. He will be upfront with you. As far as a 26', I don't believe he makes a 26'. By the way, the only reason I didn't buy was because the cabin was not big enough for the admiral. I was looking to get a diesel inboard. Another good builder in the same general area as Judge is Glass Boatworks. He builds only custom and mostly for the watermen in Exmore Virginia. His boats are utilitarian but tanks. It's another family run business. His 28' is 9'2" wide. Here's his website and also pictures of the Judge 27' that was just completed while I was searching.

From others experience, the Judge is a nice boat with the addition of large tabs, not so good without them. Need to get that sharp forefoot to split the waves.

I'll second Mud's comments. I've known him for many years and IMHO Bill Judge is a honest guy building boats one at a time. Direct questions to him and he'll give you a straight answer; it's not like dealing with a big production builder.
