I've decided that i need to up grade, i have a 25 Hydra-Sport W/A right now that im trying to sell on the salty dog website and While waiting for that to go/ i've been looking at two boats mainly. One is a 300 marlin its a 1999, and the other is a 28 Henriques Express Fisherman... im just wondering if any of you guys had heard anything good or bad about either or these boats, if so please link to my post... Lyle:
I'm with troll;2 completely different boats. Big question you need to answer first Outboards vs Inboards and how you plan to use the boat. Both are great chouces but for different reasons.
RE: anyone know about 30' Grady Whites of 28' Henriques
I would prefer the 28 Henriques because of the inboards. We had a lot of problems with a pair of 250 OX66 yamahas and each time it would take around 3 weeks to have it fixed. With a diesel the service is amazing usually no more than 1-3 days before a tech can be at your house instead of towing the boat to the shop. If worse comes to worse, a new engine could be installed in less than a week. Both boats you are looking at have good reputations, but I would take the Henriques for my style of fishing. I have been on a 28 CC and loved the boat, but I cannot speak of first hand about either boat you are looking at.

I MYSELF WAS GOING TO BUY THE HENRIQUES 28 THEN I FOUND A CAROLINA CLASSIC 28 DID MY HOMEWORK AND BOAUGHT THE CAROLINA. THE HENRIQUES WEIGHS 10500 LBS THE CAROLINA 15,500 THE SAYS ALOT BUT I WOULD STILL BUY A HENRIQUES OVER A OUTBOARD BOAT WHO WANTS TO FIGHT A TUNA OR ANY FISH AROUND 2 BIG OUTBOADS INBOARD IS THE WAY TO GO!
Re: anyone know about 30' Grady Whites of 28' Henriques
Besides O2 senors, we had one engine lock up about 15 miles out on the way to the middle grounds. It seems they never ran right and were always in the shop. One time on a tuna trip one of the engeins lost rpm then would pick back up. It came down to we lost faith in the engines. Some people had/have great luck with them, and they speak highly of their reliability. Also each time they went to the shop it was atleast another 3 weeks until we got the boat back because the dealers were backed up. That too is another reason our new sea vee has a cummins. Good luck and I hope you don't have the problems we had.
Re: anyone know about 30' Grady Whites of 28' Henriques
Two completely diffrent classes of boats. The Grady is a nice boat , but it is pushing the envelope of a design that works well at 23 ft, and the engines are going to be gas hogs... vs a boat with a great reputation ( yes, even better than Gradys' for those in the know in NJ) that screams hardcore offshore fishing machine. Maybe you're not focused on fishing, but if you are walk the docks in Cape May or Point Pleasant and you'll find the Charter Captains running Henriques while the 30' Grady's are tied up to the waterside retaurants.
Also concur with the above - check out the Carolina Classic
RE: anyone know about 30' Grady Whites of 28' Henriques
I like the Henriques boats, but chose a 30' Marlin instead because of two factors:
1) the outboard-powered Grady has much less draft, which works better in the shallower waters down here in Southwest Florida
2) the Grady has an aft cabin
A shallow draft, generator, A/C and sleeping accommodations for 4+ people were my criteria when boat-shopping...and the Carolina Classic, Albemarle, Henriques, etc. in the 30' size range didn't meet my criteria.
