I received a notice from BOATPIX.COM saying that they had helicopter pictures of my boat. I remember last year the helicopter flying over and taking pictures. They don't tell me how much the photos cost. The letter says they will ship me the photos and I kept the ones I want and return the ones I don't want within 10 days. I can't find out how much I am in for, has anyone had dealings with this company? Any idea how much the photos cost?
Thanks
There was a pretty long thread about BoatPix not too long ago.
Yup, they did a flyover on me maybe a year or so ago.
They sent all their usual BS and when I asked if I could come to their office in person, they got very flaky. (Keep in mind I'm less than 20 miles from their "alleged" office.)
I wouldn't trust them any farther than I can toss 'em out of that chopper.
What's there to trust? They send you the photos and you get to check them out?
A couple years ago I think they used to put the pictures up on the web and let you order them - not sure why this didn't work out but they don't do it anymore. They shot some photos of a buddy of mine, and he bought (I think) an 8x10 or two. Good quality.
I imagine with the send-you-the-pics business model they are mostly counting on you feeling guilty and buying the pictures. Or they're that confident in their work.
I'm pretty sure they DO list prices on their website. I saw them fly over me a couple weeks ago and went to see if my pics were online (which they weren't) and read about their current business model. The shots seemed pricey, but hey if you get to check it out in advance, what's the harm?
I have some good pics from boatpix - cost was about 350-400 bucks for some big prints - like 11 x 17 - it's not a bad deal - they send you thumbnails and you decide.
I have been shot by Boatpix 3 times - 2 times were no good - blurry and not the right angles.... but the first time was magazine cover type stuff.....
good question - the helo has a huge BOATPIX.COM on the sponson so when they shoot you you know it. Go to their website and contact them. If you have reg #'s oin the boat they get your address that way..Mine is documented so I had to call them....
you'll know it when they shoot you, they are rather close for the money mag shot....
I had them send me the pics they took, and you could keep the lot for a certain price or send them back within a specified time frame. I swapped out the big one for a different shot in the big size, paid them a bunch, and now have some nice pictures. I had no problems.
I purchased a set of pix last year.
Went online, filled out the form, pix arrived ... 3-4 weeks later.
3- 8x10's, 1- 11x17. Quality was excellent. Billed my CC.
Done. No problems
Thanks for the information. I was surprise that I got the letter from them because I am a documented boat and all they had was the name on the back of boat.
They match your boat registration numbers or documented name and search through a public data base for your address. I have received pictures from them on 2 occasions and been highly impressed with the quality of my shots. Because of the last thread, I beleive they want you to send them credit card info before they ship out any pictures. It seems they had too many problems with people not paying or saying they never received the photos. My 2 experiences were photos sent first and I made payment after deciding on my order. The totals ran about $300 give or take 50, it's been a while.

you have to go on the website and tell them what boat, color, where, when and so forth. They have never sent us pics without us asking for them. They do good work. We were going to buy some, but my hand was in the owners face, so we returned them and heard no more from them.
count me as another satisfied customer of boatpix.com.
that thread someone referred to seemed to indicate that they had a few issues w/keeping track of 'who paid' and 'who didn't', but i think, for the most part, this is a good company to deal with.
