Default Anyone tried to create their own Navionics chart chip?

On my previous boat I had a RayMarine C120 which used Navionics Gold COMPACT FLASH chart chips. I have the G906XL3 chip (SE and Bahamas) for it. I'm installing a Furuno 1944C NavNet vx2 on the new boat which uses Navionics Gold chips but it uses SD chips. I was wondering if anyone has attempted to create a new chart chip by copying the data to a new chip? As much as the nav chips cost I assume they have some sort of copy protection scheme, but my initial look at the Nav Gold CF chip looks just like normal file system data. I'm not trying to be Blackbeard the chip Pirate, but I already bought this Nav Gold G906XL3 chip.

Doug

according to navionics, the data would be destroyed. contact them , maybe they have a trade program.. after all, you did purchase the license for your card

If it was ME, I'd try to copy the data and put it on the new chip. That should NOT have any effect on the original CF. If you can SEE it on your computer you should be able to copy it, although it won't necessarily work in the GPS. That's my opinion. Formatting the chip is probably the bigger issue.

It looked to me that (in my case) Defender burned the CF card themselves, since it came in an unlabeled case. My guess is that vendors get a master CD and a bunch of blank cards, and burn them as needed, removing the need for a HUGE inventory.

But that's just me.

Navionics claims copying wont work. That's why no one has tried it. If you succeed in copying let us know.

Apparently you CAN copy it, but the copy won't work in the GPS
