Trailer Registration in Maine?

Ok folks, I need some info about registering a trailer in ME. I was told they offer a 5 yr registration for $135 and here in MD, it's $124 for just one year. My under standing is that it's legal if the trailer gets moved from one state to another periodically. Anyone doing this? Whether you do it or not, if you know about this, please let me know. Also how does one go about getting insurance?

I was only given a choice of 1 year or 2 year in Camden, ME....

It might be legal in Maine but your home state may consider un-lawful.

We get a lot of Massachusetts folks who register their cars to a relatives address in NH to save on taxes and insurance. The police in some Mass towns will make note of NH tags overnighting in their area and if they see the tag for a continous month they issue a summons. Very expensive to get caught. I think the Maryland police will notice MD hull number on a ME tagged trailer.

2 years is the maximum that I'm aware of. You still need to have a mailing address. When registering the boat you get to pay for a Milfoil sticker too. Yaks, canoes, and planes don't.

There's also a fine for carring weeds on your boat or trailer. I wonder what they would do with some sea weed?

That should be listed as an invasive plant on Moosehead.

Not sure what the state of ME offers though them but I there is a service in Maine that handles registerations. Here's from their website.

I called them and they offer registrations for 1,2,5 or 10 years in Maine. Now I just need to find out about insurance.
