Default Prop Recomendation

I just purchased an 02 17' Sea Pro Center Console. The dry weight for the boat is around 1000 lbs. It has a an 02 90 HP 2 stroke Yamaha engine. It has a crude aluminum prop that is dull with very little cup to it.

Even with this crude prop the boat has plenty of torque and power. I'm looking for a reccomendation for a prop that will increase speed and efficiency. Any ideas on size and pitch would be greatly appreciated.

I had a similar rig a few years back and had an acquatence reccomend a nice stainless and also added a dol-fin....it made a huge difference in the performance...increased my top end from 38 to 43 MPH and cut back on the fuel consumption.

Thanks,

Mhis73

what RPM and speed are you getting with the current set up? What characteristics do you want to improve, and how much are you willing to spend?

It pushes around 5,000 RPM with the old aluminum prop. I hope to increase my speed and efficeincy and was hoping to not spend more than $300.00 ish.

Thanks,
Mchis

Not sure what your motors max RPMs are but it sounds like you need to drop down to a lower pitch prop too. Maybe go down 2" in pitch and try a Stiletto or Yamaha's SS prop or maybe a Michican Wheel Rapture.
Most likely a 17" prop is right for your boat. (assuming the engine height is correct)

I've got a 20 pitch 4 blade PowerTech SS that I had taken off of my 180CC Sea-Pro w/Yam115 2stroke (I traded in the boat with its aluminum prop). The prop is cupped wich provides a fair amount of transom lift that the Sea-Pros need with the live wells in the transom. With a 4 blade prop you will want to go up in pitch. I will let it go for $200. it is shiney and like new. I do not know where you are but I would be happy to sell it too you and let you try it, if it does suite your needs I've give you your money back provided I get the prop back in the same condition within a reasonable amount of time.

What is the current prop pitch?
WOT rpm's should be 5600?
probably at least 2" s down from your current prop depending how beat up it is. I would have a shop look at it 1st. It may have worked fine when it was in better shape!
