Default What do I replace Mako seat with?

My 1980's-era driver's seat/livewell/cooler with swingback for my Mako 17 is starting to fall apart and I think it is due for replacement. I have seen the swing back seats at WM and Boat US, but they don't seem to match too well, particularly the white vinyl covering versus the Mako's off-white. Anyone have any suggestions? Brand names I should look at? Thanks in advance.

Ialso have a Mako 17. I replaced it with a leaning post with rod holders and a seat back that is removable(fits in the outer 2 rod holders), a fold down foot rest, and an oval live well underneath.

Hi Ram,

I had the same boat - a 1989 171. Great boat with the fishbox/helm seat.

Is it repairable? They were actually an expensive seat for Mako to put on the 171 and 191.

If you've got a good marine glass shop around it maybe worth $3-400 to get it repaired.

Check out some of the Mako owners web sites. I know I saw a few of those used seats for sale on the for sale boards. If you want Mako parts, try Marine Liqudators. You can find good links on www.classicmako.com

This isn't any help to your problem, but I just purchased a used 17'cc Mako, 115 Johnson, and was wondering if you use your boat off shore fishing? I fish the coastal bays of Louisiana and want to do a little off shore fishing under the right conditions. I had a bigger boat in the past & it wasn't a problem.
This boat really handles those bays like a champ.

go custom. get a stainless swingback frame made that will hold an igloo cooler. Many aluminum shops (t-tops, etc) have standard models that they make. Buy a foam padd seat top for the cooler, and voila. there are all kinds of foam pads out there for the marine igloos. Many bayboat mfgs supply these as OEM seating. find one you like and order one.
