I'm looking for a new 17' CC for offshore fishing on the nearshore reefs here in South West Florida, as well as bay and canal fishing. I will also be looking at late model used boats 2002 and newer. What are some good boats to look at that would be in the 15k neighborhood new with Boat/Motor/Trailer? I'd like a crusing speed in the upper 20's so I want a motor of sufficient HP. Give me some ideas please.
Tarpon6, you should look in to Keywests 1720cc. This is the perfect boat for what you want to do! You can usually pick these up brand new with a 90 Yamaha and aluminum trailer for approx. 14-14.5K. My cousin has one of these and really enjoys it.
Maycraft 1800 cc with 115 HP should not be much over that price. I bought one new in 2000 with GPS, VHF, Garman, and alum. trailer for less than $16000 out the door price.

I've been considering the same boat. How do you like your Maycraft? Any problems? It seems like a lot of boat for the money, especially the flared bow that should keep me dry. Did you get yours at Collins in Smithfield?
We have a boat show coming up in a couple weeks. So far I'm going to look at Scout, Sea Hunt, Key West, Cape Horn and hopefully Dusky. I'll scope out the Maycraft and Pioneer if they are there or a used model comes around. Megabytes Dusky is sweet but Maryland is out of my neighborhood..
I measured my garage and it's 20' 10" long. Will I be able to fit these boats straight in if I have a swinging / removable toungue?
I just saw a Scout ad in Florida Sportsman (latest month) for the Scout 175 Sportfish, 90HP oil-injected Yamaha, and trailer, for $15,995. Tough to beat that!
This is something I have never seen before. A guy from Florida is saying a Dusky is too far away....
I bet we never see that one again...
Seriously Tarpon, Megabytes boat does fit what your looking for, it is a great 17' boat and once you get it to Fl you'll be closer to the factory to stop by and pick up cool Dusky stuff.
I'd tell you you would be closer to the factory for repairs, but that boat will never need to go back.
Florida to Maryland is a weekend trip. I thought it was a cool trip when we picked up my Dusky.
Key West 1720 with a new Evinrude 90Etec!!!! this is what I settled on after looking at boats in that price/size range. I'm still waiting on the engine before I get mine. The dealer and I both agree that this combo is gonna be a hot item in the future.(probably replace the more common 90yammie 2 strk. that usually is offered with this boat) As far as the KW goes, you can ask around and anybody that has one LOVES it and usually talks good of its quality. Comes loaded with standard features that most other boats offer as options.
With the etec its more $$$ than a 2 strk. carbed engine but not more than if you went with a 4 strk. (my setup was around 16K with bimini top added in)
I am hearing good things about the Key West boats. The one thing that concerns me is that it has the narrowest beam of any of the 17' CC boats I am considering at 6' 10". The other boats are 6 to 10" wider. I wonder how much this would effect stability when drifting, trolling and anchored.
