Default RE: pick up truck rod holders

My truck has one of the fiberglass covers on the bed and I am using one of the rod holders designed to stretch across the rear of an SUV (from clothes hook to clothes hook) I secured it to the bottom side of the cover with stainless screws about every 6". The only problem is that with a short bed, any rod longer than about 6' will have to go at an angle. I can carry 8-10 rods up to 7' long. If you use this method, you have to really be careful and not let a rod slide forward, or you'll be replacing tips. No, I haven't done it yet, but I know it's only a matter of time. Nice thing about the cover it that you can lock everything up.

Regards,

Backyard, home-boy, low budget design......been working fine for years loaded with 30's

I really like the aluminum holders that bolt to the toolbox though.

I use ski racks for a lot of my rods, works great for most "bay" type rods. Once you get bigger than say a 6/0 you don't have enough clearance on top.

Very simple. I took a 2 by 6 and the bed of my dodge ram has inserts in the side that a 2 by 4 or 2by6 can go into across the bed. I cut the 2by6 to length and screwed 12 plastic rod holders onto it front and back the rods are held vertical and it works great. I can also put my kayaks in behind it with an extender in my triler hitch.
