I have a friend that is looking to buy the Scout 205 cc. The local dealer here is asking nearly $45,000. that seems crazy to me for such a small boat. Has anyone bought one of these or been quoted a price at a recent boat show?
We plan to go to the Savannah boat show this weekend to get another dealers prices and compare.
Will you please share with me how much you paid or were quoted. Please indicate what equipment the boat had and if it had a trailer.
If you do no want to post the price here, you can send me an email or PM
Here's some pricing I got from the local Scout dealer at the Richmond Boat Show last Saturday. I posted a few pics of this boat on the "Richmond Boat Show Pics Part 1" in the "PHOTO" Forum.
!st price is "SUGGESTED RETAIL", 2nd price is "DEALER SELL PRICE" at the show.
Hey, Ed - it's NOT about "MONEY" - it's about "LOYALTY"!
Or maybe that's "loyalty" TO "money"???
The "175SF" was $35,225.78 (Tot. Sugg. Retail) and $21,270.00 (Dealer Sell Price)!
That "included" a 90/4 Yama, Bow Cushion, Swim Platform, Troll Motor Plug, trailer, $1,100 "dealer prep/rigging", $680 "freight" (that's MORE than the "205CC" freight?), and a "$1,000 Rebate"!
When I was in Florida in June 2005, the Scout 210 Sportfish (now the 222) could be had with trailer, T-Top and Yamaha F150 for just under $40K. Now, eight months later, this much smaller boat is $45K? Boat prices are increasing about 10X the rate of inflation and I don't understand it.
The last couple of months there have been ads in Florida Sportsman for the Scout 175 SF or 180 Bay for $18K, boat, motor (Yam 90 2-stroke), trailer, and swim platform. $20K for same rig with F90 4-stroke. That sounds like the "deal" the dealer at the show was talking about (once you add shipping, etc.).
But I just can't see how a 205 costs DOUBLE what a 175 is! But hey, if they're selling, more power to 'em.

We looked at the Pioneer, but the pioneer is really a small boat compared to other 20 footers. It compared better with the 17 footers. Regardless, the pioneer is a nice boat and is finished very well.
Did you take a look a the Pioneer Sport Fish 197 or the Bay Sport 175
The Pioneer 175 is 17' 10" by 7' 4" compares well with the Scout SF 175
The Pioneer 197 is 19' 10" by 8' 2" much larger than any 17 foot boat.
I have not seen a Scout SF 205. I thnk they are 19' 11" by 8' 4"
I did look at the Scout SF 185 w/ F115 and it prices out about like the Pioneer 197 w/ F150 when options are added on. To me the Pioneer 197 was larger than the Scout SF 185. Not knocking Scout . Scouts are nice boats - no doubt about it. It was a tough decision back in the fall.
Any way - for a price comparison of my Pioneer Sport Fish 197
I didn't order a Hull color, or Radio Box, or a built in tackle box and a porta potti is not an option.
My price on the hull color option was ess than $700 and the tackle box was about $110. I think the Radio box was about $400.
I did order the T-top, Swim platform, popup bumper cleats, pre-rigged for trolling motor, fold down foot bar on the leaning post and T-top spreader lights. It comes with the rear jump seats, hydrolic steering and Leaning post/ 30 gal live well.
It will have a 150 E-TEC and a B&S Aluminum tandem axel trailer with disc brakes, folding tongue and spare tire on a spare hub - does have leaf springs -not a torsion axel.
The dealer will install a battery switch and built in battery charger for me.
Before taxes and electronics --just under $30K
I could have gotten the F150 for a couple hundred more.
I see them advertised on single axel trailers - that should reduce the cost a bit, but I wanted the tandem with brakes for extra safety in trailering through Altanta to get to the coast.
Ordered in the Fall. Yes I have been waiting on the E-TEC
Boat/trailer arrived at the dealer last week. Expecting the E-TEC soon.
they may be comparable in length, but as far as sheer mass, console size, gunnel height, the pioneer is smaller
Put a pioneer next to a Sea Hunt or Scout and it is puny.
We are getting off topic a bit here. The pioneer is a nice boat, but it is smaller than the other boats it competes against.
I looked at the Scout 197 SF. A walk in console is not an option or standard on the Pioneer. Guys, do not shoot the messanger. It is just smaller, but the pioneer is more than $10, 000 less.

The SF 175 had a pretty significant change in the rear configuration around November 2005. The advertised prices may be for the old model.
The "175 SF" at the show DID have the "old style" notched transom, and NOT the newer style one. I asked about this and was told the mod was a "mid-year" change. The hull # WAS an "06".
In the new Scout catalog, there is an "option" listed as "Extension 13"" - wonder if this is the "molded motor well"?
Didn't think to ask if the "new style" was MORE $'s?
That 205 pricing sounds like the same crazy pricing I saw at this week's show in Boston.
$46,000 and that did not include a trailer!
thanks,
for the photo
My perception has always been that the the same boat cost more when you get above the mason dixon line. The scout factory is a 30 minute car ride from my house. You would think there would be some saving just for that.
Yeah, that would make sense but a lot of manufacturers have an agreement with dealers to keep prices within a certain range. From what I understand it's their attempt at controlling the market and preventing dealers from selling at cost which could damage their reputation.
