Default Electronics for my new boat, looking for advice

I did not purchase Electronics for my newly ordered Sailfish, mainly cause I didn't want to finance them in the cost. I will have 2 boats, one small for fishing the intercoastal and rivers for shrimping and Reds and such, so my new sailfish will be used in the medium off-shore and jetties use, some pleasure cruising and entertaining. I'm looking for advice on GPS/Chartplotter/Depth/Fish etc and a good VHF (to include Antennae size/type). I'm looking for a new name now, The SeaBoss made her final run down my driveway last night, it's a sad day to be boatless! If you have any ideas for a new nickname, I'd like to hear them. By the way, I have taken into great detail over the last several days of what type of motor to put on my new sailfish. Given the performance facts, I intend to go for the 150. I'm on an even split for advice inputs on yes or no, so I'm going 150 4-Stroke Yamaha!

Default Re: Electronics for my new boat, looking for advice

I think that some folks that have read your message may have become confused as to what you were asking for advice about.......electronics, names, or outboards.

On the electronics..........pretty much anyone now is making great multifunction displays.......Raymarine, Furuno, Garmin. I really don't think you can go wrong with any of them. Considering the size of your console, you can easily flush mount the display right in front of the wheel (look at my photo album to see what I did with my electronics). If you have the room and the inclination, you can probably flush mount a FF right beside it so you can have that as a stand alone unit. As for radios, ICOM is the tops in my book, and you can't beat the quality of a Digital antenna. You should get in touch with some of the vendors on THT (I got my entire setup from yachtjim at BOE and would buy from him again). Most all of them have package discounts and great support for your questions.

As for the outboard...........have you either been in or seen the performance numbers on a 21 Sailfish with a 150? Personally, I would think that would be marginal on that hull and something between 200-225 would perform much better. Rule of thiumb here is too much HP can be adjusted with throttle..........too little is only adjusted with $$$$$.

Hope you enjoy your new boat..........spring is right around the corner!

Looking for advice on Electronics for my new 218CC Sailfish. Sorry for the confusion, was trying to set the scene for what I'd be using the boat for.
