Default Sisu/Rosborough 22

Doe anyone have any experience with this hull? I'm looking at the Rosborough 22 & I'm told they have the old Sisu 22 mold. Semi-displacement with an outboard. I found an old reference to a problem with a Sisu 22 that didn't right quickly in a swell (no telling what mods had been made or how it was loaded) & I'm curious if anyone has any actual experience with the boat. I'd be using it in the Buzzards Bay to Narragansett Bay area, fishing with the occasional overnight to the islands.

As far as the 'does not right quickly' comment goes this is just a characteristic of a soft chined boat. It is more tender than a hard chine. Using the highly effective & accurate method of measuring boat hull soundness i.e. beating one's knuckles against the side of the boat, I'd say that the Sisu has a couple more layers of cloth in her hull than the Rosborough.

This is not to say that the Rossie is a bad boat at all. I just feel that the Sisu was built more for the world of the commercial fisherman.

Here is a look inside the shop. When we were there they had about 4 or 5 being finished up.

As far as hull thickness goes I believe Doug's probably right. Some of the Nova Scotia builders lay up there hulls like they have to with stand a torpedo. Leblanc brothers hulls are very heavy duty. Good for commercial stuff. However I will say that our deck to hull joint has got 3/8" bolts when our Parker had 1/4" bolts! I believe the Rosborough is built very well. Not yacht quailty but still every bit as good as any mass produced boat.
14 more weeks Matt and we should be back in the water! I'll let you know when she gets back in her slip so we can take you out for a ride.

I had a Sisu 22 a while back. Very nice boat that handled some pretty good seas. There are several molds around. The later one from the Sisu company had a planing flat or molded in spray rail that ran from the stern at the turn of the bilge to the bow. The aft part aided planing by providing a horizonal surface while the forward part deflected spray.

The earlier Sisu 22's had a typical round turn of the bilge. Several builders have a mold like that: Lowell Brothers and Flowers boat shop for two.

I understand that Rosborough took the version with the planing flat and made some modifications: more beam and freeboard and I'm sure other mods. They would be the best source for that info.

I liked the Sisu 22 and expect the Rosborough 22 would be even better. However, as I'm sure you know, Buzzzards Bay can make any 22 foot boat seem very small!

The Rosborough 26 is at the top of my list right now,

Good luck,

Ed
