New guy with a dumb question. What are the advantages and disadvantages of
a catamaran Vs single V hull in a 23 to 25 foot boat? Thanks,

Use the word cat on the search feature, and youŽll get the THT version of War and Peace.

Welcome to the forum.

You're gonna need some beer to get through the volume of info on that one. "War and Peace", That is funny but it is probably close to the truth.

You should check out Glacier Bay at www.glacierbaycats.com. I have had my 260 for 5 years and it is a great ride in most conditions. Go fast boats are fine when the seas are 2-3' but in most circumstances I am able to run as fast as most.

You can read all of "War and Peace" and still be wondering who is right if you've never been out on a cat. The best way to find out is to go get a good test ride from a friend or a dealer. The feeling you get coming from your own hide will tell you what you want to know.....

A 23'-cat will out ride any monohull on the water of comparable size. I use to own a 23' Sea Cat and would consistently out run most 25-28' boats running offshore in choppy conditions> I'm sure there is a length where the mono ride overcomes that of a cat but in the size range you are asking about nothing can compare to a quality built cat. Not starting a war just stating facts and i use to fish in some sloppy stuff, but with a cat there is a learning curve to handling the boat in different situations once you get the feel for it thats when the cat excels. If you dont take the time to learn this then i can see how some guys will claim the mono is better or why they went back to a mono from a cat.

Cats have a tendency to be very positive in the water with little to no slip compared to mono hull

They do not have as much storage losing the v-berth

They are lighter in some cases

They ride higher in the water on plane

Solid feel like a heavy car on the road compared to a compact

More fishing platform than a weekender kind of boat

I am sure some of the cat owners will chime in here but there is a lot of differences but I my mind cats are more hardcore fishing platforms and mono hulls in the same size are more multi purpose rigs.

And some do not plane - ever! Others are advertised as partial-planing or semi-planing.

Had one monohull dealer at the Annapolis show tell us that we'd probably have to go up to a 30-footer in a monohull to be on par with a mid-twenties cat.

Actually, I think of our soon-to-be "cat" as a better weekender because of the Queen sized berth. Mike is 6'6" and V-Berths just don't work well even when you get into the high 20's and low 30's.
