Try a drop foot HD jack, geared low, easy to turn, and most of the travel is taken up by the drop foot.

Sounds like a good idea but remember you would need electric power for it.

It appears from the description that these jacks do not attach to the trailer frame, that they are inserted under the coupler (where the ball would be). One would still have to manually jack the trailer high enough to free it from the tow vehicle. Correct?

No, No. Look at the pix about 12in from the bottom. That flange bolt's to the trailer in the "V" of the trailer frame.

You can also buy the "wheel" attachment for the jack.

This is what's confusing me:
Quote:
................ It fits most 2 5/16" couplers and has a lifting capacity of 2,500 lbs.
Why would the coupler size matter if it connects to the trailer frame. Also, how do you swing it out of the way for travelling (or launching)?

BTW: The Atwood website is no help at all.

Go to a local RV dealer and they'll tell you more than you want to know about electric jacks. I think they're around $300.

As an aside; don't confuse Atwood with Attwood Marine products. Atwood makes great mobile products www.Atwoodmobile.com
