While she's probably not the same wave puncher as a semi displacement WC, I opted for the C-Dory Tomcat (planing hull). The net benefits made it the best cat, in my opinion, in the under 30' class. Mine's 25'5" of fiberglass, about 1.5' of armstrong bracket, and about 1.5' worth of engines. She eats up chop up to about 3', after that she will slap and you need to quarter off, adjust speed, etc. Price brand new with twin 150's and a trailer is about $140K. Top speed is just over 40 knots with bottom paint, typical cruise is 22 knots getting just over 1.9 nm/g (or 2.2 sm/g). Some are now sold with 175's and can exceed 50 mph.

I mostly cruise and dive off mine. It offers 45 sq feet of deck space, 6'6" cabin, fully enclosed/stand-up head with hot water shower, tons of storage space, and most importantly, a fully enclosed cabin (zero canvas). I believe there are a few Tomcat owners on the Great Lakes.

Good luck with your search.

The only problem I see with the World Cat 27-33 are their price.

These wide beam 28' hulls can be bought in South Africa for around $80K, then powered and trailered in the states to bring you a walk around Cat a lot cheaper. Its a New Zealand Design from East Cape. But if I were you I would modify the transom with a higher lip and use 30" shafts to raise the motors 5 inches.

read the prop test at World Cat site for the 330TE with 2 Yam F350s.

It is a semi displacement hull ,not a planing hull not meant for 70 mph ,not really capable of that speed regardless of hp. It is not a speed boat 79 mph is as exagerated as most 7 to 10 foot waves on THT

That's a good looking boat.

I was surprised that it gets about half the fuel economy w/200s (0.8mpg) as a WC 33EC w/250s (~1.5mpg @32mph). Although in the Titan review it doesn't say how the seas were and how hard they ran the boat.

Still for the savings, you could burn a lot of gas.

The East Cape will run with 140 twins, so I don't think the .8 mpg number is even close. This Thailand hull is equipped this way.

I was going off the review that was on the Magson Marine website. I agree that it should be much better with 140 twins, but what kind of top end would it have? Do you have any fuel economy data on these models? Do they utilize a hysucat hydrofoil? I didn't see anything.

That is a very stylish boat. Looks like it has a ton of freeboard.

A lot of the 7, 8, and 9 meter boats have been built through Noah, so I would talk to him through his link about fuel economy.

Any round bottom cat will go faster with more power, but you will add a lot of weight for motors and a lot more fuel to get very little gain and your economy dives with displacement sponsons over 30 mph. You want mono speeds, buy a planning hull and pound your guts out.

But then you can go the Old Bull way like the photo below of this 38' X 13' beam supercat, another cat out of Africa. This ones runs all day on a pair of 85-115 hp motors getting 5 mpg, cruising at 18 knots. Very smooth and stable ride so you can also run the blender and have a good time on the water instead of doing a death grip on the ttop bouncing around.

IMO, World Cat and Glacier Bay haven't done anything new for years, so I kinda laugh when I see guys sticking their chest out and bragging on them.

Here is another New Zealand designer who is miles ahead of anything found in the states.

That is a Fish HAwk X4 system and bottom number is a surface speed. If the unit was recieving a signal from the probe there would be 2 more number below. The surface speed is taken off a wheel on the transom mount transducer. But since the water is ariated and excellerating off the back of the hull it exagerates the speed. Real top end of this boat with those Hondas is about 54mph.

The World Cats are excellent for the great lakes. I have fished on one many times for tournaments and its a huge advantage being able to go farther faster and for less then anyone else in the contest.

Sleeping 4, i dont know about that, might be doable if you get creative with some matress pads and sleeping bags.
