If the boat is trailered, let sit for a day or two. Then siphon off the top portion of the gas and use in the car or truck. Water is heavier then gas and therefore will settle to the bottom. The remaining portion of gas/water in the tank, talk with local gov (city/county) for hazmat disposal methods.

West MArine carries a product to resolve this. It is a fuel water absorber. You just add it to your gas and it enables you to burn the water with no side effects or harm to your motor.

how much water will it absorb? I was just going to post about the same question. I ran my new(to me) luhrs today on the saddle tank and bam it filled the filter with water and I mean filled. so I need to either absorb it. maybe as much as a gallon in 118 gallons, or remove it. about 118 gallons.

I for one, never had any luck with any of those "watr absorb" products ... unless you count bad luck and wasted $$ . Tried the special liquid additives, these stupid foam/spongy things on a stick that would only expand in presence of water, not fuel. Great idea ... ever try to chase a water bubble around in an 80 gallon tank, with baffles, through a +/- 3" hole??

As previously suggested, with siphoned off the top portions of gas and filtered the rest. We were lucky, the marina had a few huge clear fuel-suitable 30 gallon containers. Siphon into them, then siphon off the good fuel.

Using a fuel-safe pump putting the rest through a Racor filter did the trick. Time consuming, but worth it ... and for us cheap Yankees , all fuel was salvaged to burn off another day !
