Default Regulator 26 w/ F225's vs. F250's

Wondering what the forum has to say on the choice of Yamaha F225's or F250's on a Regulator 26. The Yamaha performance data sheets show the F250's at slight better speed but better fuel economy at mid range. Anybody has had any real life experience with both?

The question is..why get the F225 when the F250 is available?? You won't be sorry that you did.

Need to have Barry (Family Jewels) weight in on this. He did exactly the upgrade you're speaking of, and I bought his F225's to repower our Contender. Look further down this forum on responses to questions on the F250. He has an '03 Regulator 26. I think he will tell you that the boat is more responsive all through the power range, with a greater top end and probably better fuel economy at cruise. As was stated, if you can power it with the F250, the price differential will be made up for in fuel savings if you use the boat much, based on the better cruise economy.

Check out Mayoki's response to the F250's for sale on the "For Sale" thread. He indicates how please he is with his F250's. These are the ones he repowered his '03 Regulator 26 with.

My O6 with twin 250FS runs 37 mph at 4100rpm and gets 1.7 to 1.8mpg on nearly flat water with the stock Yamaha Saltwater series II 21 props. At 4500 rpm I get about 40mph and 1.6 mpg by Yamaha fuel management. With nearly a full load of fuel in flat water the boat will see 55mph WOT.

These 250s ALWAYS feel like they want more throttle.

Minimum planing speed is about 35 to 3600 rpm with 14 x 18" Lencos fully deployed and the engines trimmed in and runs about 24 mph. I often wonder how it would run with K-planes.

I personally don't think you lose that much performance with the twin 225s but if you order you can only get 250s. Regulator did this because so many of their boats get the 250. 23 or 24 with single 250, or the 26, 29 and the 32 with twins.

You can probably get a deal on a new leftover 26 with twin 225s. Public perception will be that the 250s are better...they do cost about 32 dollars more per twins for routine service.

I'm not surprised that Reg is not selling the 26' with F225's anymore. The F225's on the 26" were great, never a hiccup, but the F250's are a perfect setup for this boat. Hole shot is amazing, mid range torque is kisk ass, and top end has seen 57.8 light. The boat is just flat out better with the F250's.

Ya think I like my new motors?
