I need to glue back in place a plastic fingerpull onto the sliding plexiglass doors of my electronics box. Any ideas as to what would work best? Thanks.
I work at a sign shop in swansea ma, we have stuff that works like contact cement with plexiglass. you wont brake int at the seam. If you are interested send me an eamil and I will get the stuff for you. you can call the sign shop at 508 3790036, just let jr know that you head it form jb munroe, sounds like your for the projo.
tom if you contact nepco sign suply in east providnce, and tell them you need the liquid weld for plastic. the stuff is realy great. just dont use it on pvc, it crumbles it!
I agree, go to any plastic shop and ask for Caseway Acrylic adhesive SC-125. Get the applicator, which is like a cyringe. Tape the pieces together and squeeze the glue (its like water) into the seam. The capilary action will cause it to seal up the seam (actually melts the plastic). It wil be as strong as new.
Oh my god!-
Don't try "acetone trick" , Ha Ha . Listen- I work making large back lit trade booth displays. there are two distict families of glass nowadays. acrilic and lexan. I cannot stress enough how hard it is to tell them apart. Listen 20 years ago any idiot could tell if he had plexi or lexan , but now with all the color tints that mimic each other it is harder. To be safe- contact the original mfg. once you are shure what you have you will be able to glue. Oh jesus i hate that word- JUST PULL THE WHOLE SLIDING PANEL OUT, MATCHIT AN CUT A WHOLE NEW PIECE !!!! iF YOU BUY A PIECE OF ACRYLIC- YOU JUST HAVE TO SCORE IT AND IT WILL BREAK PERFECTLY ON THE FRACTURE. If you buy lexan, or any of the polycarbonate family, you will have to cut it completely thru. This is not reasonable without a saw, but on the happy side it will turn a 38 calibre slug!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ran into the Plexi vs Lexan problem for some finger pulls on my sliding glass windows on my boat. I used clear RTV silicon to bond the plastic handles back to the glass, and they have been on for years without any problems!
