Default Yamaha Oil warning - OX66

Today,I was cruising and I heard a warning tone and the arrow was pointing to the red circle....trouble. Turned off the motor...thought for a second...and checked the oil. Almost empty. I put in a gallon and all was well...motor started, no alarm....and presumably no damage done since I turned off the motor in less than 15 seconds.

However, I never has a warning with the arrow pointing to the oil can. 99 Yamaha 225 OX66 with Yamaha guages.

Shouldn't I have gotten some warning?

Think, It sounds like you did get "some" warning. Possibly the float in the motor oil tank stuck, didn't fall as it should have. I'd take the float assy out and check to see at what point it activates the warning buzzer and clean up the unit at the same time.Maybe there is some crud on the float shaft that kept it from falling sooner.

You did get your warning! No harm to your engine plus, if you didn't have additional oil on board (good for you that you did), your engine would have keep on going in reduced rpm "get home mode". When oil was zero it would have shut off. I have all these Yam "safety" systems checked every year.

That IS your warning. Read the owners manual, it explains it.

Don't forget there is a resovoir on the motor also. The warning is before the arrow goes solid it will flash first for a bit.
