Has anyone here owned a Monza or ridden on one? I found a pretty good deal on a 1987 26' center console with the forward cuddy and 2001 twin 200. Any information on these boats would be helpful. Thanks
I have a 2002 Z280 Monza that I built with Richie Powers, VP of the company at that time. It has been a great boat with literally no problems. It does everything I was promised it would do.
I do not know much about their boats built prior to the year 2000. Other then the 26 was discontinued in 2002/03 when the company decided to concentrate on the 28 and 34. Also I the company did go through some positive changes in terms of quality control, time in mold, wiring, hardware, etc. shortly after Richie came on board.
Awsome riding boats. I had a 1996 26' with twin Johnson 150s. I bought the boat brand new in 96, it was my first new boat. The builder is an old cuban guy that used to build off shore race boats. He has taken his off shore boat building knoledge and put it in to CC fish boats. My 1996 26' Monza (open, no cuddy) did over 50 MPH with twin 150 Ocean Runners. Not many 26' boats can do that. My only complaint was that it was a little bit of a wet boat in the slop. I know the 80s hulls are a little different than the one I had but I know someone that had one just like you are describing and the owner loved it. His love for his Monza is what made me look at them and buy eventually buy one. Good luck.
The guy that started Monza is Eloy Roman. Nice guy that built a great boat. Don't know who owns the molds now but I used to call on him in Miami many years ago and sell him marine parts.

Yes, Eloy is the man. I dealt with him directly when buying my boat. He even let me come to watch some of the building of my boat. The last I heard he was still the owner but has hired help to run the company. I think he builds a great boat. Back then the two boats I was choosing from was the 26 Monza and the 28 Concept. I chose the Monza because at the time I did not want the cuddy and the concept had the cuddy, also the Monza had a higher freeboard. The Monza was also about 5000 less. If I remember correctly I think I paid 44K with the trailer. The days of buying a brand new 26' boat with twin engines for that price are over.
When I built my boat in late 2001/early 2002 I made 8 trips over to the factory from Sarasota. It was a wonderful experience and I learned a lot about the boat building process. As Monza is a small company I had input on just about every aspect of the construction process from the basics on. In fact they changed things I requested along the way at no charge. Some of the customization and choices I was able to make included t-top size, rod holder placement, manufacture of cleats, manufacture of lights, manufacture of bilge pumps, macerators, type of insulation on fish boxes, dash layout, height of wind shield, type of propellers, manufacture of hydraulic steering, lockable storage and fish boxes, etc. My boat remained in the mold for almost 5 weeks!
Eloy no longer has any ownership in the company and it is now owned by Manny Roman. Manny also relatively recently purchased Motion Marine, a high performance catamaran builder. Manny has significant backing and I hope will lead the company in the right direction.
