A buddy of mine is close to a deal on a Henriques with a single 300HP Cummins and bow thruster. Henriques have a great rep in general, can any one comment on this setup ? Also, it has an integrated hardtop and tower, different than most of the express models I've seen. Boat is clean, low hours, prcie seems right. Comments on the ride, stability, construction, etc. ? Thanks in advance.
hey paul,
Henriques is a good solid boat, nice ride as well..I just looked at the larger ones (35&38) cause i was in the market for a 35ft express....The 28 basically has the same hull..They made with solid fiberglass as well. well built...Rode and fished on a 38 el bravo couple times out east and was impressed but bought something else. I would def recommend them..built by fisherman, for fisherman.....sorry i dont know much about the 28 but i am familiar with the others..only concern is , single diesel? i would opt for twins..Especially if your going to be doing some offshore stuff..In wantagh, you gotta run far to be where decent fish are...what kind of speed u gonna get in that? i love the boat, but think with tower and etc be bit heavy and slow
I have never seen one with a single. That must be an older one. I hope he sea trials the boat with a full load of fuel and gear to confirm that cruise speed. Overall, Henriques seems to have a good solid reputation. Cummins had some issues with the B series engines back in the early 90's that he might want to check into if it is of that vintage.
I was on a 28' Enriq's last summer at Block Island. I passed it about 2 miles outside of Shinicock Inlet on my way to Block and said, "That's a nice looking simple fishing boat". The guy was drift fishing outside the inlet. I got to Block Isle, and a few hours later, guess who not only pulls in to the same marina but ends up with the slip right across from me?
The guy was a "snob" bigtime, he barely acknoleged anyone else at the marina, but the boat looked to be very well made. Didn't get a ride on her though. She had a single desiel and no hardtop.
paul..i did some research..on boattest.com they did a test on 28 with twin 190 yanmars.....poor test results.. at 2750 rpm's thats about cruise for those engines it did 18.6 knots cruise..top end 3300 rpms 26 knots ..thats with more hp than a single 300..so according to those numbers and 80 more hp than single..be tough to imagine hes gonna cruise at 22??? But if hes not concerned about the speed then thats another story
Paul,
He was fishing the Inlet area. So I don't think he left from Shini for a while after I passed. I'm talkign about 5 or 6 hours later. I got their around 12 noon (cause I left around 9:30 10am). He didn't arrive at Block until 5 or 6 or something if I remember correctly. I was not implying in anyway the boat was slow, although, I'm sure it is, it's doesn't look like a speedster, but I bet it rides nice.
birdman - when i re-read your post I noticed that you said he was fishing, not that you passed him while he was enroute !!
looks like a 20-22 knot boat, not too bad if it can maintain it in less than ideal conditions. so far i haven't heard anything negative regarding this rig, how about who else can chime in ??
Can't really comment on the 28' but I fish on a friends 38' El Bravo quite regularly. The boats are every bit of there reputation and then some, solidly built and well laid out for one purpose. Catching fish.I would be a little leary of a single screw, but on a 28' it could work quite well. Most of the Hatteras charter boats run single screws. Hope this helps. One more thing, the 38' that I get to fish on has a set of 10 cylinder Mann diesels and it can easily run 46 mph at wot and cruise in a heavy chop with no problem, these boats are built like tanks.
Mine cruises at 23-24 Kts all day with TAMD 41ps, burning about 12gph for the pair. There's a 28 with a single 300 Cummins in West Islip, MY MARY is the name of the boat, I see him at the fuel dock from time to time. His is a '95 I believe, and he's very happy with it from what I understand.
I've had mine for two full seasons now and am very happy with it, had it out as far as Toms canyon from Fire Island Inlet. The total miles from my dock round trip to Tom's, with trolling from 8AM -3Pm was 230nm., we burnt 160 for the day. We did four canyon trips this season, boat ran great, although fishing was only so so.
Construction is great on the boat, first class wiring, access to the engines is excellent. If you have specfic questions feel free to e-mail me. I've got a bunch of pictures of my boat at: http://groups.msn.com/JoesPhishingPhotos

thanks joe , I was hoping you would weigh in. seems like the concensus is what I figured, these are good boats. twins would be nice, but a single is economical to own and run. thanks to all.
Joe!! I forgot you have that boat? Thats only a 28'? Man that is a FULL 28'!!! Looks more like a 35!!
I love that boat also, Sorry Mark, I have first dibs!!
Joe, was that fist picture on your page (looks like from the air?) taken at the Riverview Bass tourney by the Helo? Sure looks like the same day, cold and grey out...
Thanks Brucee! I'm just gettin' it broken in it will be with me for a few more years. So far it's served me well.
Birdman-I saw that same 28 without the tower at Montauk this summer I was at Montauk Marine Basin for 9 days in August, one evening I went over to Star Island to visit with a friend who had his 38' Henriques there for a week. The guys the 28 weren't very willing to chat . I also saw a brand new 50' Henriques there, HAMMERHEAD...all I can say about that one was WOW
The photos were taken by a helicopter, but not during Riverview Tournament. We were comming home from striper fishing in the inlet in October, and a helicopter just flew up and just started taking pictures. The name of the outfit was Boatpix.com, I sent them an e-mail they sent me the pix, and I bought them, one is a 16" x 20" that I've got in my hanging on the wall in my living room. They do nice work.

I thought that boat sold--maybe there was morethan one for sale.
We had a 28 for a couple of years with 150 volvos--way to slow if you ask me. Basicaly a simple boat, fine for its intended purpose. Pretty flat bottom--no wave smasher. Easy to clean.
Stupid place for batteries --had to be acrobat to get to them. Not a good design, I thought. Seemed nice, I would buy one (with bigger engines), but certainly no great boat-not for that price, no baot is . I like it bedcause its a Jersey boat, and I think alot of people in Nj show a little loyalty that way.
I'd like one, because I dont go out to far to often.
