That's ashame BigShrimpin! I'll keep my eye out for it in case it migrates up here. Though it's a nice offer, for me the reward is for you to get it back! And for the idiots who did this to get nabbed right by the you-know-whats!
Good luck!

Big Shrimp- sorry to hear about the loss- hope you find the motor and the scums!

You should probably post a thread on all NE sites- someone just may come across it.

Try:

www.flyfishsaltwaters.com

Although the reward is great, I'd hope somone who is able to find it would help you out for free.

To me that just sounds morally wrong to accept any form of reward when you have suffered so deep.

I really feel for yah Cap. What a sick feeling to have your spirits sink so low. What's a guy got to do to hang onto something they've worked so hard to buy - make it look like sh!t so nobody would ever want it?

Where are the engines being stolen from, home or the marina? My ears and eyes are open, although not likely it/they will surface this side of the ditch.

Keep Smile'n, It's a nice day to be alive.

Yes Lobsta, take the big-shrimpin out and lets get dinner for the winter.
It's stinky enough that you have to lock and take home all your stuff every time, for some sh%^&$%&^t head who can't keep their hands of other people's stuff

Thanks for the support. The engine was actually on the boat in front of my house (so at least this time I can file a claim with my home owners insurance - I'll still have to pay the deductible). I had a sur-lock on the engine, but somehow the person pryed the engine off. The lifting force was great enough to rip through the glass and into plywood where the engine clamps on the transom. I really can't believe that this has happened twice to me this year. Keep your eyes out for engine . . . I am very serious about the reward (I'll fix the transom too). I just want this person to go down . . . . I would mind having a few minutes alone with them either.

I had a 8 hp mercury stolen from me years ago. The best thing to do if you have free time is to just cruise the canals and marinas and look. I enjoy doing that anyway but I always keep an eye out for my motor. Even years later, I still know where I put a scratch in the hood and tiller. I can tell my motor from all others in 3 seconds. One day I will find it and the thief will find my foot up his #$%. Sorry to hear about your loss.

BigShrimpin,

You know the really sad part of this is, the thief will know that you'll get another one. You will be a prime target for a three-peat. It is clear and obvious, if they want it, they will not be denied. How much adjustment can you make?

Marking what one owns is a great idea, but I think it does little in having items returned. I've been hit (garage) 3 times now for approx. net value of 45-50k. The last time was this past spring on a Saturday afternoon between 1-2:00. I was working in the garage, went in for lunch, came out to find out that I was rob, I left the garage man door open. They quickly got over 11k worth of tools.

So I have no offerings on how to stop this type of violation other than, keep readjusting.

Keep Smile'n, It's a nice day to be alive.

I think you'll find that if anyone does by chance find your motor, catching someone who steals will be reward enough. When I was a kid my dad we got 2 old rusty go-cart frames and started to rebuild them into one nice one. We spent many hours working on the project and it was almost finished. We went away on vacation for a week and when we came back, it was gone. Catching the kind of sleazy people who do things like this would be reward enough.

My last motor was stolen off my boat in the water at my house years ago. Oh... and my house was cleaned out twice in the last month. I just finished moving yesterday. I hope that neither of us ever finds the perpetrators because they'll put us under the jail after we cut the theives into itty bitty pieces and use them for crab bait.

My heart goes out to you on this. This really sucks. I live in Winchester and we too get our fair share of drive-by looting -- probably right after they get finished in Mehfah. I have installed motion sensitive lights all over my house and property and plan to install cameras if it comes to it. Sounds like South Florida. Your driveway and garage are candy stores to the criminally inclined, and it seems like nobody cares.

The trouble with our system in this regard is that even if you catch the perps, you are meant to "leave it to the proper authorities." As far as I can see it, the proper authorities are more interested in handing out parking tickets, running speed traps, and eating doughnuts. And here in Mass., criminals have more rights than law abiding citizens. Argh. 'Course we also vote for Algore, run "campaigns" with only ultra liberal candidates on the ballot, oppose the death penalty (even with DNA proof), spend more money on promoting diversity and "alternative" lifestyles than we do on our roads.... Sorry, the point is that here in Mass. you have even less going for you as the victim of a crime than the perp. You tell someone that we ought to get tough on these vermin and people here look at you as though you are some kind of freak.

I am on the water for another month or so and I will keep my eyes out.

Wanna know they are there without them knowing that you know? Try this. we put several of these in and an alarm sounds in the bedroom but they don't know that you have been alerted.

Juris- it's not any better here in the "live free or die" state.

I had someone invade my home while I was at home. He stole jewelery from us. Turns out, he was one of the subs who helped build my house so I knew who he was and where he worked.

Filed a police report. Wrote 1/2 dozen letters and tried to visit the "chief". The only response I received was a call stating: "We spoke to the suspect (MA resident) and he did not want to come to the station to meet with us and suggested we speak with his lawyer". Oh yeah, and that the suspect has spent many years in prison for theft...

This was 2 years ago and the department never followed up and will not return my calls.

I talked to my lawyer and he said it would cost me more $$ to hire him than I would ever collect even if I won.

I know someone on the force and respect him for all the crap he deals with but just wish someone was looking out for us little guys.

On a side note, there is a company in California developing mini gps tracking devices, kind of like lojack. Could probably hide one almost anywhere but what would you do if you knew where your stolen property was? I'd hate to be the ba$tard SOB thief when you come knowkin down his door and beat the snot out of him

And these work very well too. Scroll down to the 12 gauge trip wire.

I had a brand new yamaha 4 stroke stolen off my boat well in the slip. After having to pay out the deductible and deal with the insarance company I decided I would never give the crooks the chance to steal another motor from me. The new motor is now fitted with proper outboard lock and I have drilled thru the motor saddle and the kicker bracket in numerous spots and thru bolted it along with peining over the ends of the bolts. Also did this with my riggers. These things are bolted on so well now I'm not sure if I will ever get them off.
