Default Bluewater 2550 w/twin 200 Hpdi's update !!!!!

Well the weather has finally gotten alittle better here in N.Y. & i've put a few hour's on the BW 2550. I'm not running the prop's that the factory put's on ( Due to the fact that I got defective one's & waiting for the replacement's ) @ 3800 i'm burning about 8.4 g.p.h & doing 36 m.p.h.Topped out @ 55 m.p.h.w/about 130 gal's of feul & 2 people.

The prop's are Rapture from Michigan Wheel. The factory install's Ballastic's. I've spoken w/the people @ Mi. Wheel & they said that I will gain about 3 M.p.h. w/the other prop's ( Ballastic's ).

I'm very impressed w/the performance of the boat. I really liked the 2350 w/twin 115 yamaha 4's I was running last year, but the 2550 set up this way is a " BEAST ". Oil consumption is very minimal & feul is excellent.

There's no other BW'S here in N.Y.C. & i'm alway's asked how is the ride , where did I get the boat, love the line's & when your running she look's like you don't get beat up & very smooth ridding.

I might be bias about my boat ,but i've ridden on the Reg.26 Conch 27 & there not any different then my BW 2550 ( Well except for the $$$$$$$$$ )

Now all I need is to move down to Fla.

Very Nice-- Are you sure about those fuel consumption numbers? That's like 4+ mpg.
If so, I'm gonna be doing a lot of cruising at 36mph.

Not that I don't believe you, but 4+mpg is hard to believe on that boat. Did you have the meter on both engines, or is that the reading for 1 engine?

Please don't be insulted, but with ACTUAL numbers like that and the fact that a Contender 25 (200 HPDI's)can't hit 2.5 on a good day that could add up to SIGNIFICANT savings.

on the fly

do not get the Ballastic's props. I had one on bw 2550 and the proformance is not that great. Beside that the prop is very thin and bend easy. Other thing the prop developed 3 or 4 1/4 pits that were 1/16" to 3/32" deep. I change out the prop to a mirge prop. I gain a gallon hour more at cruising (13.5 to 12.5) and 3 mph at top end . The prop guy also remended solis props but said mirge prop was one of the best props on the market.

I would try Mirages and Lasers, both by Merc. Merc has an outstanding prop lab and they continue to produce fine props. Lasers are for lighter faster boats, and Mirages have a bigger blade area for boats a little heavier.

As far as the feul goes, it's what the gauge is showing. The BW factory say's it read's for both motor's. I can say that I have run 5 trip's in the last 6 day's & have burned 87 Gal's of feul.

As far as the prop's go, there sending me 2 set's. Maybe i'll sell them & get the Merc's. The mechanic that work's on my motor's told me to get them. Will have to see. How do I get in touch w/the prop guy your talking about ? Thank's in advance.

Not trying to be insulting either.... but make sure your FF gage is reading BOTH motors... the yamaha fuel management system will read port... starboard.. or both... thats 4.29mpg... I could believe 2.15 ... If its REALLY 4.29... Bluewater needs to start a national adverting campaign because I dont know of another boat running those size engines that will come close to those numbers.

A 23 Regulator with T-Z200's burned 17.2 GPH @ 4000 RPM's @ 42.4 MPH for a 2.0 MPG burn rate. Your #'s really do sound like 1 engine.

May want to take another ride in the 26 Reg... No way the BW rides like the Reg. in seas. Reg is much heavier and maybe not quite as fast but slices seas like butter. Not the case with BW when the seas gut up.

Agree with flats on the props. The Bal. that normally comes on that boat is thinner, cheaper and will nick easily. I think its made by Attwood,,,does that tell you anything?

BlueMarlin ... got the #'s right off of Regulator's website. Didn't redo the math. Maybe these performance reports aren't so reliable, after all.

Yeah, the fuel consumption gauge is definetely only set on one motor. Those 200 HP HPDI's would have to be turning 36mph at about 2000 rpm's to be only burning 8.4gph total. I have twin 200 HPDI's, and I am burning about 8 gph combined at 2000rpm's, and that number should be consistent with all 200 HPDI's.

Only On A Fly - Yes, have fished a 2350 and 2550 BW and several Regulators. Both perform well, but from my experience, the BW gets a little "tender" when the seas get up and the Reg. doesn't. Probably a weight diff. issue. Otherwise, the BW is a great boat, other than the very limited fish box storage in the rear boxes. The front storage is huge, but the ones I've been on used that for other storage and we had to carry a large cooler. Then we couldn't open the rear fish box hatches due to the cooler covering part of the hatch. For the $$ tho, BW is a good value. Haven't found that "perfect" boat yet.

Only On a Fly - Yes, I'll take you up on your offer,, only prob is I've been on several, and don't know what you may have different. Haven't seen or been on a 28,,, just the 23 and 25. Both had the same problem. Both did ride good tho.
