Random Quote: Patty Hearst heard the burst from Roland's Thompson gun, and bought it.
Take your emblems off and re-install them now! The rivets that held mine on looked brand new on the outside but were all but gone due to corrision on the inside.
I lost half of an emblem this summer when a wave caught it and ripped it off and there are no replacements. Based on advice from the forum, I am having a specialty sign shop with a CNG routing machine making a new one, but $50 for one Mako emblem is pretty steep in my opinion. Now I'm at a cross roads to spend a couple of hundred for new emblems, take them off completely and seal the holes or seal the holes and put on a newer style decal.
Just sold my Mako 17cc last week and the last trip out the ko went missing from the starboard side. Man, that hurts when it happens, selling it or not.

inkahootz - they don't have any thing that says "Mako" and the ones they do have are not the classic Mako brown but the new green and other colors. Trust me I have tried that. I did find an ex-Mako dealer that had exactly what I was looking for in their inventory....which they sold about a month before I called them.

The holes have been filled on mine. It will have vinal letters when it's done. $50.00 is way to much to spend on that.

I'm thinking more about that every day, but I only need one "Mako" emblem to make it complete. Have you thought about trying to get the new style raised rubber type decal on the new boats?
Yea! now that is what I like to see....that is some nice work Warthog5 ... are you using all plywood coreing or are you putting in some composite on that baby. Do you have a side shot of the hull with the cabin on it? I'd love to see
Thanks Strick There is no wood in it. The wood you see in the pix, is a mold. My brother designed it on CAD. It's all Kledgecell cored with epoxy resign and vacuum bagged any where I could. The sides of the cuddy do a transition from 30deg at the front to 10deg on the sides. 3/8, 3/4, 1 and 1 1/4in for the hardtop coring were used.
This is the best side shot I have right now. The 2X8's are temp, while I was fitting the alum supports/ladders.
This will be the badging on the side, about the size of the Mako emblems.
Sailor, they had several different model #'s last time I looked. As in "Mako-261" and such.
As I recall they had some with the word Mako and then a blank spot for the model #.
Seems that you could repaint one of these easier than having a new one made.
Could be someone bought them out in the last month or so, I will stop in over the next few days and double check.
inkahootz - If find some please let me know. The last time called them they were out of the ones that just said Mako. I am willing to cut and paint a different color or style but the two people I talked to on the phone didn't seem like they wanted to be much help. I'm sure they get lots of calls so I understand. I am hoping to get down there to poke around and maybe come home with a nice leaning post for my 20.
Warthog5 - What are you planning to primarily use the boat for? Trolling, bottom fish or dive? What are your plans for power and did you increase the size of the fuel tanks? What's the layout of the cuddy like - is there a small v-berth now?
Sailor The plans for power have changed due to money. It was going to have a pair of Suzuki's 115 4 strokes. It's up in the air now.
Yes all the above fishing. The plan is for a fold down crows nest on the hardtop with controls.
I don't dive but have friends that do.
You can get some kind of idea what it will look like in the cuddy in this pix. I was mocking up the helm here. I don't like the steering wheel on a vertical surfac, I like the sports car feel. In doing so I limited my space for stuff, so I built the pod you see. It has a 6in round -flat surface for the compass that you cant see in the pix. In the cuddy will have the standard looking 3in foam cussions that you see in a cuddy cabin. Of corse the will be custom made. On the backside of the helm station are cut outs for 2 magahony cabinet doors and a shelf that devides the two. It will be arranged the same way on the port side, but diffrent on the front side. The rigging has all been run to have 2 group 27 batteries in each side. Plenty of power for what ever.
This is all 3/8in Divacell. The panels were vacuum bagged with 12oz DB and a layer of 4oz on top of that.
Sailor, I finally got by Marine Connection today and took some pics of their emblems.
The first two are the standard hard plastic, one a blue 205, the other black 243.
I would think you could easily cut these down to say just "Mako" or cut the 5 off of 205 to make "Mako 20".
They want 39.95 for a pair of these. Size approx. 3"H x 16.5"L
The last one is a very nice thick stick on vinyle one that is about 24"L X 5"H. They want 59.95 for a pair of these.
Thanks very much! I was thinking about filling in the holes and moving to the new raised vnyl stick on decals but if they won't cover the existing holes then maybe I will go with the Mako 205's.
I wonder how one of those really dense foam roller pads would work?
You could scuff it up a little with some 400 or so and then gently roll on a few thin coats until it covered.
sailor; the new raised rubber ones will cover holes.on my 171 i filled in the holes an you the rubber ones. had to spend some time lineing them up so all the holes are covered but it does wokk
By raised rubber do you mean the one in the bottom picture?
The pic does not do it justice, it looked really nice in person. Perhaps a little large though at 24" long.
