Not only did my wife not gripe one bit when I spent almost 1K on a new trolling motor, at 7 1/2 months pregnant she even went out & helped me bolt on the bracket. Nothing strenuous, I just couldn't reach both sides of the bolts ( I was under the deck). She did this despite the fact that she doesn't even fish! Se is willing to learn, we just need to wait until the baby comes. I just wanted to share how lucky I feel.

Sounds like you got yourself a keeper, you're a lucky man. I wish you the best with the birth and I gotta say, this sure sound familiar.
In late August my wife was 7 1/2 months pregnant and I was offered a 24' boat w/ tandem trailer for rediculously short money, truely a deal of the century. She didn't even hesitate and said "Get it!" I'm still smiling.
By the way, I had a baby girl, new baby and a new boat... life is good.

I second the appraisal that you caught a keeper As to boating with a the newborn... somehow I don't think she'll go in for that though, so you may need to be a little patient, until the kid is big enough to wear a PFD, anyway.

Good for you! Just don't push it, IMO. We learned to sail together in 1976 on a 20' Balboa Sloop in the local sailing school, went through 2 sailboats and the Mako 171 until fall of '04 and then graduated to the SabreLine.
Words of advice... (1) Lose the macho attitude if you have one or learn to fish alone. (2) if you're apprehensive, then how do you think the rest of the crew feels? (3) you have NOTHING to prove to anyone. (4) your FIRST job is to make the voyage FUN for everyone. Guess that sums it up. (5) Learn everything you can, but remember that the crew hasn't been studying this stuff and when you get scared s****less remember to apologize to the poor people you dragged out into those conditions, or for banging them into the dock when they tried to fend off, etc.. I left that one out. Been there, done that, many times.
Steve's cruising rule: End the day at a REALLY good restaurant if you're out cruising and in a really safe anchorage, too.
Fortunately it's worked for me, too, to the point that the significant other demanded that we trade the 30' sailboat for a new SabreLine 36 last year. She must like this boating stuff.
Good luck!

sounds familiar!! Last two boats I bought I brought the wife along to keep me from going crazy. Instead she wants the bigger boat with all the bells and whistles!
A bit of advice about young kids and fishing (my kids are teenagers now). Rule 1- catch anything, my son would have more fun catching bait then trying for that 30 pound striper. action is important. Rule2- be prepared to roll with the punches. If after all the prep and buying bait, etc. your kid is bored after 1 hour- go swimming. It's more important they have fun on the boat to leave the impression that the boat equals fun. Forcing them to fish for hours when nothing is happening will result in an arguement next time you want to take them out.
I agree with the advice of ending the day eating out. Some days it may be a restaurant and some days we would stop for ice cream. Kids still talk about that. Even teenagers love to eat out. Congrats on the great wife, new baby and new trolling motor!!!!
She's just humoring you. You are going to change the smelly ones! Just kidding, it is cool to have a good wife. Good luck with the baby! We are going to start on #2 here shortly my little girl is just gettint old enouigh to fish with Daddy, she loves the water just like me.
