I recently replaced my digital tach/trim meter/oil tank quantity with a yamaha digital tach/trim meter/oil tank quantity/hour meter on a 1997 250hp 2-stroke outboard
The tach works, the trim meter works, the hour meter works but the oil tank quantity always shows full, when it isn't.
Could the problem be the position of one of the 3 dip switches on the back of the unit? If so which switch?
And yes, old gauge did properly reflect the correct oil tank quantity.
Is the dip switch for engine type set to 4-stroke or 2-stroke?

Ok, I checked the dip switches they were all in the down position, so they are all positioned properly, but the oil tank indicator always reads completely full when it isn't......... what do you think the problem is?
The gauge is not intended to read in that way. 3 bars means that the engine mounted tank is OK as far as its oil leveland the boat mounted tank is over a 13 full. When that tanks level drops below 13 it will display two bars. One bar means the boat tank level is empty and you are running on whatever oil is in the engine mounted tank. When this happens the engine should go into rpm reduction mode and signal the horn.
Did you buy this tachnew or used?

Just went out and unplugged the oil tank sensor wire and then turned the key on and I only had 1 bar under the "empty" symbol on the tank...... suppose the oil tank float is stuck in the full position?
