Question on the Boston Whaler Outrage revamped model??

Hello-
Thanks in advance for your input.

I'm considering purchasing a 21 BW Outrage. As you may know, this model was revamped in 2002. It has been stated that the newer 2002 model is stripped down, lighter, has smaller sides, is not as sturdy and has less standard horsepower than the 2001.

Has anyone had experience with the various models? HAVE THE CHANGES TO THE 2002 MODEL IMPACTED THE QUALITY OF THE RIDE? I'm looking at BW's because I want a very sturdy and safe ride...
Your input is greatly appreciated.

One last question while you're here. Any thoughts on how this boat compares to the 21/22 Grady cc's??

Outrage 21 -
Don't let the 02 and newer slightly lighter weight concern you.
It's still a rock solid hull, and a bit heavier then all those older
21s that age so well.
You might be concerned because of the unique transition period of the 21.
The 99-01 was an unusally hefty period for this size (I purchased a 99 just this summer).
This weight is in part influenced by the large console with head compartment,
and the transom's rather large jump seat config.
In contrast, the newer model has a smaller & lighter console, and smaller jump seat config,
which yield more floor space / open.
If you investigate pre 99, the 21 is as light/ lighter then the 02 and newer.
Interesting point: in 99 whaler mistakenly published the brochures
with the older 2300ld dry weight, when it was actually around 3k.
I thought I saw the 02 and newer 21 is ~2700 dry.
Outrage 21 is an awesome hull.
I agree with Herring - just buy the Whaler!

The new 21 Outrage is solid as a rock and has the new hull design. Lots of space for electronics etc.
