Looking for a bow pulpit for a 28 albemarle. Any companies sell custom made pulpits? I know I can order one from albemarle but wondering if there are any other options?
I made a nice one many years ago from 6/4 Teak plank, ripped it into strips 1 /1/4 by 1 and used SS threaded rod to secure all of the strips together, added a bow roller and ran my running lights to the side of it (the bow light was in the way) total cost was under $200, made several more from others who liked it and charged $400 uninstalled.
Good winter project and was very strong. Witht he anchor sticking out the bow a funny thin happened-NO ONE BANGED INTO MY BOW ANYMORE.
They do have prefabs but the price an quality for the teak A) is high and B) is low.
Fiber glass is available but will it match your gel coat?
I looking for the same thing, didn't realize you could order from Albe, how much are they?
I have been considering making one out of Teak with a SS chaffing gear on the bottom. I going with a modification to the rail that will go out and around the pulpit, I don't think it will look right otherwise.
I'll let know if I find anything else.

Hey Dan, we where posting at the same time, Thats exactly what I have in mind. I have the same issue with the nav lights, not a big deal though.
Did you modify the bow rail? Any other problems encountered?
Dave
I'd be interested in what you find for that rail addition-I have a boat with a factory pulpit but the rail is a standard bow rail-it does not bow out to the end of the pulpit, I would like to add the bow and supports.

Thats going have to be a custom job but I think it will add alot to the looks of the boat and pulpit.
It shouldn't be that hard to find a shop to bend the rail, weld two supports and then do the two field welds.
Dave
Well you have to enlarge it on your computer to take a good look, but it's simple to bold on and can hold anchors up to 30 pounds, a simple tilted anchor roller about 150 bucks.
I pulled ours off last week as part of the preparation for painting. Its ate up a good bit, just like they get after 12 years. I am thinking about making one much as described but I will use Black Walnut (I've got a little over 1,000 board feet of it out in the barn) if I decide to do it. I made a rocket launcher out of it 2 years ago and was very pleased with the result. A replacement bow pulpit will be childs play. Oh, with the rocket launcher I sealed the wood with expoxy (2 coats rubbed in using non-blushing hardner, and then finished it with clear lacquer (sp?) to block UV from the epoxy.

Ken the owner deals with surplus. He might be able to get you one off another boat.
I just bought one off ebay a couple of days ago. I had been watching them on ebay for over 6 months. Got the deal of the century. I was the high bidder for a pulpit that came off a 23' Boston Whaler, complete with a nice stainless anchor roller......PAID $75.00!!!!!
