New 23CC purchase Radar ??? - The Hull Truth

I am close to purchasing my new 23 CC and I am looking to find out what is the best Radar for the money. PLease let me know what you pro's think so I will not make a mistake. I am looking for a 23nm Radar so I know I will be in the $1500.00 range. Thanks in advance.

I will give the opinion that you are not planning to spend enough on your radar. A decent 4 kw will run $2500. Its a night and day difference. The lower powered units are really only good for nighttime navigation, you need more power to navigate in rain and fog.The incremental $1000 will be the best $1000 you ever spend. .

Thanks mbb, thats the answer that I was looking for. Sure, I am willing to spend that kind of bucks and I am glad to know there is such a difference. Thats what this Forum is for!! Thanks a bunch as now I will not be disapointed after getting the wrong unit. I want to be able to navigate in the rain and fog if I have too. Most of my fishing will be in the Gulf and on the southeastern Shore of the Atlantic from the Tidewater area to the Florida keys. You never know, if the Striper bite is on in the Bay, I may trailer there and take a vacation and let some linesides pull my string!! What brands do you recomend? Maybe a particular unit you have in mind. I will have room on the T-Top for the antenna correct? PLanning on rigging with outriggers, Gps, Lowrance sounder and VHF.

Check your local Boat US store,they still had a few JRC 2000 units in inventory @ $899.00.
A great 24 mile CRT radar.
I bought one for my 34'trawler.
With a 23' boat you can only see out to around 12 miles anyway no matter what radar you mount,true a 4kw will punch thru rain better,but that's a lot of extra money for marginal return.

I bought a JRC 3000 4Kw, 24 mile radar for my 23' Ocean Scout. It has a 7" CRT screen, much better than an LCD. paid $1500 and free shipping from BoatersWorld.com . Had it in a couple of days.
