Default Grady White 208 Adventure?

This may be a dumb question but has Grady changed their 208 Adventure hull design?

I ask this because I always thought that this Grady had a deadrise of 20 or more. However, I just went to the grady site and looked up the 208 Adventure specs and it says that it has an 18 degree deadrise at the transom.

So this Grady (which I thought ran really smooth when I owned her) has the same deadrise as my new Hydra Sports 212cc?

New Subject:

Now I don't know how much engines weigh but the Grady comes in at 2650 lbs. with out motor and the Hydra 212cc comes in at 3101 with motor. That still gives 400 lbs. for the motor. If the Hydra pounds more then the Grady 208 with the same deadrise would that be because of the big difference in width of the boats. i.e. the Hydra coming in at 8' 8" and the Grady at 8’ 1”.

Now please do not misunderstand what I am saying. I am not saying that the Hydra Sports is the same or equal or better to the Grady quality wise but what I am asking is with the weight being about the same with the same 18 degree deadrise shouldn’t these get roughly the same ride (pounding wise) and if not would it be because of the width of the beam difference or something else? Phew: long sentence!

I am not bashing anything or saying the famous "my boat is better then this boat" I am just asking the question shouldn’t these 2 boats give roughly the same ride? And if not why?

Is the Hydra a variable deadrise hull? The greater width of the Hydra may have something to do with it, but not much. Despite being only 18 degrees at the stern, the deadrise on the Grady gradually increases as you move towards the bow. At the point of entry, I would imagine it's 45 degrees or more. That's what would account for the better ride if the Hydra is a consistent 18 degrees. If the Hydra is also a varaible deadrise hull w/ number similar to the GW, then I don't have a clue....

Do you run the Hydra any harder than the Grady?

That's a good question. The 208 has the SeaV2 hull, or course, which gives a variable deadrise. If I don't have the tabs down, it will pound more since I am utilizing less deadrise farther back on the hull.

I fish with my brother-in-law, and my boat pounds less than his 231 Mako, but it doesn't have any tabs to help.

Does your HS have wide reverse chines? This may make a difference as well, in addition, it doesn't look like you have trim tabs either.

Possibly the wording of my first post was wrong. I actually have not been in the water with our HS for long, just test drives.

But I use to own a 208 Grady and I always hear how in a 3 foot chop the HS would pound, where our Grady really didn't. Of course, I throttled the Grady so that it would pound less.

I am looking forward to getting out in our new HS just to see if the rides are comparible. I have been out just briefly but not long enough to compair it directly to our Grady. Also our Grady didn't have tabs and I thought it still rode nice.

I hope our new boat (HS) rides just as good as our Grady, and if she does I'll be one happy camper. Of course, next winter I plan on putting tabs on our HS and maybe with them it will ride maybe even better then the Grady did. I don't know but will have lots of fun testing it out.

I am just still shocked that the Grady had only an 18 degree deadrise. I swear I heard it was like a 20 or so. I don't have the numbers with the HS but it sure looks like the angle gets sharper as the boat goes closer to the bow.
