Default What color bottom paint? Does it matter?

White is more expensive, but not enough to matter. What is best? Its an 83 Grady White 20' - kind of an off-white hull. Should I care?

Most in this area paint their Grady's witgh black bottom paint. Personally, I think that would look better than a true white next to the regular Grady White hull color. As far as affectiveness, I don't believe what color the bottom paint is makes any difference.

I think black is the best color for most boats. White bottom paint will show a scum line along the surface.

Unless Pettit has changed in the last 2 yrs...their black trinidad has more cuprous oxide..the stuff that prevents growth...than any color except the red which I don't like the look of on white hulled boats

there are a few that have reported white VIVID by Petit works well but I would go with dark blue or black every time...

Guy I work with did his at the begining of the summer, boat is kept in fresh water, it has a somewhat manilla tint to it now, it does apear to turn white when hit with a brush. No growth as of yet, but he plans to top coat it with the same color green used in the seapro logo's at some point because he doesn't like the discolored look to the white.

Never saw or heard of a white bottom paint that stayed even close to white.

I don't know anything about bottom paint, but there were some Grady's at the dealership this past spring that were bottom painted with a shiny copper colored bottom paint. I really thought it looked nice. But I have no idea how well it works or how long it lasts.

It's true tht white will look like a bad coffee stain after a few weeks. Black looks great when freshly painted but whenscuffed up looks like a mess. I use the Interlux CSC green which which matches up nicely with my canvas/lettering. I do need to replace my bootstripe though!

After some time in the water, black shows less nasty looking staining than the other colors I've tried.
