Default 1999 150 Optimax

Is there any reason to be afraid of these? Am going to look at one soon on a flats boat?

What says the group?

I know they had a couple bad years, if you search "optimax" it will come up with a bunch of threads.
Here are a couple that you might find interesting.

It'll be fine if the powerhead, alternator, and steering tube have already been replaced. Otherwise, be very, very afraid!

I have a pair on my 1999 25' SeaCraft and they are still both in one piece. Neither power head has been replaced, nor either lower unit. They have had to have both air injection rails replaced though....a few sensors on both enigines too. I have not run any special oil either (Pensoil syn-blend). I do the Sea Foam every 100 hours and I have a tad over 800 hours on each motor.

Got '98 150 on a 18' flats boat. Run the **** out of it. about 700hrs, nothing but routine maintenance. Be sure you have a strong 1000CCA battery hooked up to em. Only probs I've had( minor starting issues) is when it sits--they like be run.

Problems were mostly in the upper hp range for that motor. It should be fine if some of the updates have been done, I would take it to a dealer and pay him to run a computer scan on the motor. If the price is right go for it, you will never know if you are lucky or not unless you do, buying a used motor is always a crap shoot. By the way I have a 2000 Opti 135 and it has had some petty problems, how ever the all newer dfi motors had some problems.
