Default Load Rite Trailer VIN

I bought a 1998 boat and trailer in North Carolina and brought it home to PA. The DMV requires verification of the vehicle identification number (VIN). The sticker on the left front of the trailer that is supposed to have those numbers and capacity numbers is rubbed down to aluminum tape, no numbers.

I have the title with the VIN, but they must be verified by the agent.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Couldn't you take a stamp/number set and stamp the number from the registration onto the frame??????

I should add that this is a galvanized box beam roller trailer.

Thanks Afishinado. I cannot find a stamped number on it.

BB,

I could stamp it in, but would I be guilty of some kind of fraud if I did? The numbers are supposed to be on the sticker from what I read. If this were possible, wouldn't thieves do this to change the VIN?

I wouldn't think it would represent fraud since you have the registration in your name already.

ron,

I don't think I would put the numbers on the trailer myself.

If you have the title and a bill of sale from the previous owner I would contact Load Rite and fax them the information requesting they send you an updated sticker or whatever they recommend. Most trailer mfg's are now assigned a specific prefix to the trailer VIN. Load Rite might not have had this prefix in 1998.

I would strongly advise you contact Load Rite rather than making any modifications yourself. Let them determine the best course of action for you. They probably have the history of where the trailer was initially sold and should be able to provide you with documentation you need to register the trailer. In most cases a copy of the previous registration is very helpful.

East Coast Trailers,

I took your advice. Load Rite had me fax the bill of sale and title to them. They offered to send me a new sticker. Good customer service.

Thanks.

Ron

Just a "Hooray" for Load Rite. They assure me that a replacement sticker will be in the mail today. Good customer service there. I will definitely look for another Load Rite when the time comes. Thanks for all the advice.
