Default what is that thing that goes in the transom center rod holder

that keeps the stern lines criss-crossed through an eye ?

i have my stern lines criss crossing across twin outboards... the tide moves 4'.. .sometimes the line gets stuck under the top of the motor (putting pressure up on the motor when the tide is low and the line at the bulkhead is above the boat), sometimes it gets stuck over the top of the motor near the prop (putting pressure down when the tide is high and boat is approaching level of line at the bulkhead)

i saw a boat that has this thing that goes into the rod holder and seems to keep the dock line more off the motors? I can't seem to find a name or a place to get it?!!

Shouldn't be hard to make. Stick an old rod in the holder, drop a line from the tip, tie a ring on the loose end. The rod will bend and flex as needed.

I had the same problem and it drove me nuts. I tied the two lines together where they met a small piece of 30LB test mono. It is now kind of like a big X. Works fine and keeps the line from snagging the outboards.

There is a gizmo thats designed for holding shore power cable up that goes in a rod holder. It's about two feet long and has a split ring welded on the top of it. Havent seen anything for dock lines. Is this what you may have seen???

BINGO!

That looks like it. Though the other more cost effective solutions sound just as good. I can't stand giving West any more of my $.

Thanks guys

I thought you put a bait cutting board in that location.

For fifty bucks, they should anodize it and custom engrave it!

1" PVC fits a rod holder perfectly. For $5 you can make anything you want. I have made hangers for the fenders & a support for the shore power cord.

I did... but I stow the cutting board when docked... this is just for when I'm docked and the stern lines are there...

Another great idea with the PVC... I bought a long length of PVC to make a couple of fender holders... didn't know what to do with the rest of it until now...

Time to whip out the Dremel on this rainy day...

OK I'm having a bad week...

I cut a piece of PVC, stuck it in the transom rod holder and the criss crossed stern lines go through it...

The last few days have been windy and rainy and the tides have been unusually high.

I checked the boat today and the rod holder was sheared off the boat!!!

How do I put this rod holder back into place? It was screwed in before, but I guess the screw holes and the threads are sheared, too. Do I need to reinforce it or what? Glue? The holes are intact, but are probably smoothed...

darn, can you get to the back side of the rod holders? if so, through bolt it with some large stainless fender washers on the back, or better yet, a backing plate. Seal the holes with either marine grade silicon or 4200, I also like to use medium locktight on the treads to prevent them from coming loose on their own.

It's too late now, but that's why I suggested an old rod instead of tubing or hardwood dowel. You need something that will give way without damage. If you reuse the pvc, hang a long spring from the top to hold the lines. You can get one at a truck parts store. Some tractor trailers use a spring to hold the air lines out of the way. As far as your rod holder, if the screw holes are still there you can use bigger screws or just set the screws into 5200 or epoxy.

Light weight piece of galvinized bent into a "J" shape. Notch the end of the long run so it fits into the rod holder and mount an eye bolt on the other end. Use a long bunggie cord to make a loop and run the dock lines thru the loop.

All you need is to put a Caribiner where the ropes cross. Mark
