Be sure to check with your state law regarding tow insurance if you will be towing her. Some (all?) states require all basic auto ins to include coverage for anything towed by the insured vehicle, so your boat is automatically covered when towing. Some boat ins includes coverage for when towing, but you may not need to pay for that coverage if your boat is already covered by your vehicle’s policy.

Another consideration is what you are insuring for/against. Insurance is basically gambling, you are betting that you are going to somehow lose something. What/how are you going to lose? If your concern is only liability, then you might be better off with a blanket liability rider added onto your homeowner’s policy. If you are looking to replace your boat should it ever become necessary, then a more comprehensive policy specifically for your boat might be the way to go. Be sure you are comparing apples to apples. Some replacement policies are for the boat’s “value” and some are for the “replacement cost”. There is a world of difference between the two.
