I don't know but there must be a reason B&D went bankrupt a few times. They offer a good ride but not the bes yacht finish. That said I would still love to have one. As far as carolina builders go, the sculley 64 was prob one of the badest boats I have been on. Look at www.baylissboatworks.com , they make some grea looking boats.
Davis found out that going bankrupt and then selling his name to investors was a much better way of making money than continuing one shop.
And I agree, the Sculley 64 " Water Witch" is a bad@ss boat, 90,000 lbs and does 43 knots!! Pretty cool, wait till you guys can see the 80 that they're getting ready to start in early '06.
Steve Bayliss has a good shop too, didn't mean to leave him out.
man they are all nice..I like the jarrett bays, and the hines farley..48 express called the topless.I just looked at a 46 davis flybridge here in md.being refit after coming out of south america.has been there for the last 10 years.too much money.
my bro runs a 40 buddy harris...the carolina babe.

Ive never been on the 52, but Ive been on the 45. The one disadvantage to the boat is the height of the hardtop. From the cockpit, theres no way to reach it to put rods in the holders withought climbing up the tower. One positive note is the great visibility from the helm, due to the height.
wow now I have heard it all.....someone in this world who actually lives in Kill devil hills thinks Black Well builds a better boat than Paul Mann and Spencer??? never thought I would hear that--how many Paul mann boats have had the hull issues that Craig Blackwell has had???
Many of these guys are correct. Jim Sr and Jim Jr do produceand fish and incredible ride. The last time I talked to Jim Jr.,he said they we're taking a Sculley Express along with the Water Witchto the Ft. Ladeeda boat show. I'm pretty sure he said it was a53' Express. I'm an express man and that would be my first lookif I had the opportunity.
Those pics look like they were taken just South of the bridge beside Pirate's Cove, towards Wanchese?
When my wife and I were down at OBX last month, I spoke with one of the charter captains at Pirate's Cove who owns a "Mann" (he was cleaning "her" up at the time! ). He said Paul Mann has a FIVE YEAR waiting list right now!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also said that some folks that can afford it are "buying" openings there to get boats sooner! Appears to be a standard kinda' thing if you want a quicker delivery - the guy in a hurry pays a "premium" to the guy alREADY in line, to get his spot! Good deal for BOTH parties!
The captain also told me there's a 70-footer under construction right NOW at Mann's!
Wife and I rode past Paul Mann's place, as well as "Blackwell", and it's INCREDIBLE to see what comes out of these "no-frills sheds" along the side of the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Truly works of art that are well worth the bucks - if you are fortunate enough to be able to OWN one!!!!!!!!!!!!
These are what I call, "If they GAVE it to me, I STILL couldn't afford one" boats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
