I have been on an Albe 24 w/ jackshaft. It moves the weight forward so the boat isnt so transom heavy. This allows the boat to plane quickly and run more level, especially at slower speeds. On a variable degree hull like the Judge it will allow you to better get the boat's sharp entry down into rougher water for a nicer ride. The jackshaft also gives you a clean transom to fish over. If you are going with an outdrive and can afford the jackshaft, I believe it is the way to go. Just my opinion!

There is a reason top builders like Albemarle and Carolina Classic only run jackshafts with outdrives today.

Also inquire about the new composite drive by volvo. Great reviews and durability from what I have read!

Bill Judge made inquiry about going Volvo--- I want the dual prop however fail to seen the advantage of " composite" in fresh water--- from what I have read the drive is not a composite construction it is only clad with a composite -- I could be wrong --- always had mercrusier I realize that OMC/Volvo copy the M/C with the SX --I fail to see the advantage of going Volvo--- The only think that scares me is props--- however I want a bravo to get the cone drive like Volvo

I never had any problems with my mercruiser drives on my last boat the three years I had it (had to repower the blocks though). Parts are also more availible w/ merc. Everyone I know who has the regular volvo duoprops has had good luck with them too. Like everything though, maintianence is the key. I would go with whatever Bill suggests. He has the relationships with the manufacturers and probably knows what works best and installs cleaner and easier. Good luck. I wanna see it if you get it before she gets hauled back to the lakes.
