Default Homeowners Insurance on Boating Loss

I have used homeowners insurance to cover loss of rods and reels when stolen from a boat in my yard. Has anyone been successful getting your homeowners to pay on a loss 500 miles away, for fishing equipment lost on hurricane (or anything else) damaged boat?

Thanks
