Random Quote: You don't have to be certifiably crazy to own a boat, but it sure helps a bunch!
It is not laid out well and for that kind of money they could have done a better job on the finish work.Save yourself a couple of grand and buy yourself a Conch 27. It's what they tried to copy anyway. But they did a very bad job of it.
I was very close to buying the 27 . You need to go down to the factory in titasvill fla .Factory is very impressive and the boat is built like non i ve ever seen.I went for a test ride and was very impressed . the best explanation of that boat is the hull is very similar to the 26 regulator, it,s a foot longer different chines and same designer ( lou codega ). the layout is almost exactly like a conch 27, but the fit and finish is better. the reason I didn,t buy one was because I live in Long Island 9 months of the year and in Islamorada the other 3, Iwas worried about being so far away from them in case something happens and secondly there arent that many boats out there, at least not enough for me to buy one . i bought a 26 Regulator instead. you should deffentaly go look at the factory. Heck of a nice guy. I probably should have bought one .

Interesting so far every one I have talked to including several professional fishermen said the fit and finish was the best they had ever seen.

I know what you mean, apparently they made only 10 27's last year
They had one across the canal from us for a couple of days. It looked like a nice boat from the outside. I thought it looked like a 23 Seacraft, but longer. If i was going to spend that much money i would find something bigger for the same price.

Let me start off by saying that I own a Conch 27.You want to talk about a boat that has a bad finish this (Conch 27)is it. But, that being said I can tell you this boat it is built like a sh!t brick house. I am a fulltime captain so I need something that works. And before you ask I did not get my boat for free. That being said let me give you some of my observations.
I have been on several HB27's including the Spanish Fly. First the livewells on the HB27 are smaller than the Con 27. The inside of the center console of the HB27 only houses batteries-that is it. On my 27Con I have a ton of room inside of my center console.I have a helium tank, I can put a porta potty, and alot of other things in addition to the fact that I have my batteries (3) in there. When I walked around the console of the HB27 I had to turn sideways. When I walk around my Console of my Con27 I can walk in a normal fashion.
When I stepped on the hatches of the HB27 they would creak. They were not flush with the deck. On my Conch 27 they may not be finished as nice but they do fit flush with no noise. I could go on and on about thing that I saw but I just wanted to give you some opinions on the two HB27 I had been on.
If a pretty boat is important to you than buy the HB27. Although, I saw that they HB were in some type of financial distress but i'm not really sure of the nature so I will with hold comment. Put the HB27 next to the Con27 and they are laid out just the same and look almost identical.Think about it this way. Jose Wejebe who had one made (HB27) and had an influence on the design of the boat basically designed a Conch 27 which he fished for years as a guide in key west. The HB27 Jose had done for the show never made it on. Can you guess why? Before you buy that boat go to key west and see what the guides use. There are some guys there that are on the water 300 days a year. You will see 90% of the guides there use Conch 27's. For me and what I do the Conch 27 is just perfect. You can even go down to Oceanside Marina and look at hull #1 from Conch. That hull has been owned by three guides down there and has some ridiculous hours on it. But yet it is still is used day in day out. That is what I wanted in a boat.
Oh and I will end with this if you want to see good fit and finish look at a SeaVee or Intrepid those guys know how to finish a boat.
Good Luck with what ever you chose to buy and fish hard.

While I agree with much of what you said - I think your percentage may be a little skewed. There are quite a few sea vees, whitewaters, yellowfins and contenders being fished by the local light tackle guides. I don't think 90% is anywhere near accurate.

Thanks for the informaitive reply. Iam currently very pleased with my boat and I'm not looking to upgrade anytime soon. I was simply trying to find out about this boat for a friend. I too have fished on a Conch 27 and would have to agree about the finish. However the boat is owned by a friend who fishes over 200 days a year on the boat and l;ike you said its built incredibly well. my only question for you is if given the opportunity to choos between the two for the same price what would you choose?
If I had to choose between the two for the same price I would still buy the Conch. The guys who build the Conch 27, Edey and Duff, have been in buisness for a while. All that talk of financial problems at HB scares me. Do I want to invest $120,000 in a company who may not be around a week from now
The HB sure is alot nicer looking than the Conch27 we have already established that. But the HB is not executed better than the Conch. The functionality factor of the Conch makes it a better choice in my eyes. It's just a better execution of a fishing boat than the HB. That is what I care about. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.
Oh and by the way Trosset was a SeaVee/Suzuki captain for a long time, now he is a Yellowfin/Suzuki captain. Yellowfin is trying to make a push down there by signing guys like Trosset, Rob Hammer, and a couple of the Delph boys. I guess they are trying to make there boat more of a "Florida" boat.
Once again best of luck with what ever your friend decides to buy.

Yea Trosset ran a 25 Sea vee for years, it had a 225 Suzuki, but I am prety sure he sold it to another Captain down here not to long ago. He now has a 31 Yellowfin with twin 250 Suzuki's. But he wants to upgrade to the 34 when suzuki comes out with 250's. I know Zach Bentley has a 34 Yellowfin with twin 250 suzukis, it is kept at Hurricane Hole Marine, right off the highway. That is also where Trosset keeps his boat!
