Default Key West 186 CC

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone out there owned a KW 186 CC and what you think about it. I had a chance to see one this weekend and I was very impressed. I thought that I was set on a Sea Hunt 186 CC, but after seeing this boat, I need to rethink. These boats come fairly well loaded from the factory and as all KW boats go - built well.

What about a 115 4-Stroke Yamaha on it - is it enough?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Hey,,,
Didnt see the KW186 at the Baltimore show, they only had a KW190 there and I thought it was a little pricey compared to the Sea Hunt.
What kind of pricing are you getting on the KW186 compared to the Sea Hunt...I'm getting low 16 out the door on the Sea Hunt..

Was the KW a Sportsman or Bay-Reef Model? I have the 2004 sportsman model with hydr. steering and a T-top. She runs smooth and I get next to nothing in spray unless its a windy day .I'm really happy with the boat, with the exception of possibly not enough storage space. I have a 115 yamaha 4S and she will do mid 40's loaded with two people, two big dogs and a full fuel tank. I thought about the 150 but the 115 is really a fuel miser....

I second Chalkguy. I have the 186 cc and its a great boat. The F115 pushes it fine, and I've been out in 2 to 4 foot seas and felt very comfortable. It's also been pretty good drifting the flats for trout. Overall, its exactly the performance I was looking for in that size boat. I was going to buy the Key West 19, but this boat addressed all of things I was not quite happy with on the 19. Also, the 30 gallon livewell is hard to beat.

capnjoe - sorry for taking so long to respond. You must be looking at Ed'a Marine for that price. Up by me they are both around the 20K mark.

yea..that was Eds and the local dealer here in Baltimore had dropped his price at the show this week to try and compete with Ed's I guess.
The Sea Hunt is still my number 1,,,but,,I would really like to try and save up and get the 20...I think it would be worth the extra.
I'm not really all that crazy about the EuroTransom on the 186, really takes up a alot of space.
Take care and if you remember, drop me a line and let me know what you end up getting. I would like to see a good picture of the KW 186, they're web site really sucks, they dont give you much info or pictures of that model

Here are some pics of the 186CC. I suggest not getting the leaning post as the console height is better suited for sitting.

Chalkguy, you say yours runs mid 40's with a 115? The local dealer said when he first ran one it was just at 39-40mph with the 2 stroke 115 with next to no fuel or gear. I was under the impression this hull needed 135hp-150hp to get comfortable in the mid 40's loaded down. Wonder what a 150 would do on that hull?

Dowop,

I looked at the 186 hard before going with the 196, and am very glad I did. The extra foot has really proven itself with the extra space. Recommend you consider the 196 instead of the 186. I picked up a used 2002 196 with 150 Yam. carb. two stroke and it has performed very well. I know the 186 would not have been adequate in space after going with the 196. Plus the 186 was still going to cost almost as much as the 196, about $1800 difference.
Good luck in your search.

Joe,

You're welcome. A 115 Suzuki is just what we've rigged on that one. Discontinued?? Just the opposite - brand new this year. Key West is a bit slow in catalogs, literature, etc.. They tell me they're working on a new catalog.

Yup that is the boat. They did a fine job with that new model and IMHO will give Sea Hunt a run in this class.

Perryr - The 196 - is that the Bay Reef you are talking about?

Lakensea-

Is the 19' model going to include the updated features I see on the 186? (Like the pull-out seats)

No, that seating arrangement is only available on the new 186 series.

I looked close at the 186 Sportsman with my brother-in-law at the Charleston Boat Show. That's a nice looking boat. I liked it much better than the 1900 Sportsman. The one in Chas was rigged with a Yamaha 150 two stroke, but was also available with the 115 four stroke. It should fly with the 150. Price was around $20K, no matter which motor.

I like the looks of that boat. I have a Sea Hunt but I think that boat will make them make some changes. Sea hunt has a real chalange to stay ahead of that boat.

i have the 186 i put a 140 johnson 4 stroke on it and it does 30 mph at 4500 rpms. i talked to a few owners before i bought and they had 115 4 strokes and told me they wish they had gotton more power. thats why i went with the 140 if i went with yamahas, 150 hpdi or 4 stroke the boat would cost me 3000 more.

Still Going -
Is that a 186 CC Key West?

If so, you must have the wrong prop on it, to be running that slow. I just ran one with that configuration... Running >50mph...

I don't get to visit here often, but If you want to get the correct prop (and assuming it is the key west) email me @ Rinabinett@keywestboatsinc.com .

Those of you looking at the 186 vs the Sea Hunt, take a look at the difference in Cleats, the Beam, the hatches, # of rod holders, and the jump seats. I think we have done a great job with this boat.

Been on the 196 Bay Reef and it is an awesome boat. It had a Yami 175 and hauls a**. Tracks like a dream and rides well and dry. fish off the beach in 3foot all day with no problems. Owner loves the boat and plann on the 21 Bay Reek next since he is a charter Capt.
